Going the natural way! Young or old, we love our hair.

Hair health plays the deciding role in factors like styling and personality. Conditions like hair fall, damage, dandruff are few of the common hair problems faced by all. Earlier hair fall used to be a sign of ageing. The ever-rising pollution, hectic lifestyle and never-ending work stress paves way for hair fall.

There is another factor that we mostly ignore. Back in the days, women took better care of their hair. We do not have that kind of time anymore. We moved away from natural remedies to chemical treatments looking for instant results. Instant results is not the right solution for healthy hair. We have seen and understood that with time. It is time to bring back the age old solutions! Before that a small brief into the cycle of hair growth.

Hair Growth Cycle:

Each strand of our hair goes through three stages in its entire life cycle:

  1. The Anagen stage – A phase when the growth in hair is actually seen. The follicle divides and contributes to the lengthening.
  2. The Catagen stage – This is more of a transitional phase. Here the hair growth stops and the shaft of the hair is pushed up closer to the surface as the follicle shrinks.
  3. The Telogen phase – This is the resting phase which lasts for about 2-4 months. Once this phase is over, the hair sheds on its own accord.

These cycles are very much active like every other body functions when we are young. The problem starts during the middle age, around 30 years or more. Our hair growth starts slowing down due to the hormonal imbalances, improper diet and excessive stress.

I can’t even hold garlic clove in my hands because it makes me hot and itch so bad so imagine if I rubbed it on my scalp, but if I use aged garlic extract orally or topically I have no problem. The smell is nowhere near the same as a garlic clove and it does not linger. It taste sort of like soy sauce.I wash it out of my hair after 20-40 minutes with a non toxic shampoo. So many people couldn’t understand how it made my hair grow so fast, thick and long. They think I’m wearing a big wig.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

  • tanvi

Hello my self tanvi my hairs growth has stopped they were not healthy too.. Plz suggest me some effective remedies so that i have long healthy hairs…

Dear Tanvi, diet plays an important role for the growth of healthy and lustrous hair. It is very important that you nourish them from outside as well as inside. Regular exercise and proper sleep will help you to keep stress at bay which will in turn regulate the hair growth. Wash your hair regularly to keep it clean and healthy. Indulge your hair with hot oil massage..once or twice in a week. This will improve the blood circulation of your scalp and if you have tried all the hair remedies without any success then consult a dermatologist so that he or she can study about your problem. By your dermatologist’s advice, you can take supplements and undergo medications.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Hi Anna, rough and dry hair can be the result of dry, itchy scalp and lack of moisture. First of all you will need to tackle with dandruff…a healthy scalp will lead to healthy hair. Some of the remedies to tackle of these problems are:
    1. Yogurt and pepper – yogurt contains friendly bacteria that prevents scaling of scalp and pepper is an antifungal. Take two spoons of pepper and ground it finely. Add this to one cup of yogurt or curd. Mix it completely and apply on the scalp (make sure you apply only on the scalp and not on the hair). Leave it undisturbed for an hour and then rinse. Use a mild shampoo after that.
    2. Olive oil – Olive does two things here. Firstly it can cure dandruff and secondly it moisturizes the dry areas of the scalp and the hair. Before going to bed, massage your scalp with warm olive oil every day. Cleanse your hair with a mild shampoo the next morning. Ensure the olive oil is just warm and not too hot.
Hope you find these tips to be useful and do share your experience with us !

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Thanks….glad that you liked our article :-) application of onion juice is an effective way to boost hair growth. However the pungent smell of onions can be difficult to get rid off but not impossible. Few ways of removing the smell is rinsing your hair with apple cidar vinegar or few drops of lemon juice diluted in water after shampooing of hair. Another way is to apply olive oil in generous amount..leave it on hair for an hour and then wash your hair with a mild shampoo. Secondly, it is true that biotin is beneficial for healthy hair and nails. Biotin can be found in eggs, mushroom, avocado, peanut butter, cheese, salmon, cauliflower, whole wheat bread, almonds, bananas, soyabeans etc. Do include these items in your diet to enjoy the benefits of biotin.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Hi Basha, yes you can use castor oil instead of coconut oil or olive oil. Boil a few cloves of crushed garlic in castor oil. Apply it to the roots of your hair follicles. Wash off your hair after few hours or leave it overnight. Use this treatment thrice a week for best results.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Thanks for the tip Ratna !! It is true that sometimes insufficient intake of water can lead to hair loss. Toxicity in the body makes the body too acidic. While some acidity is very important for body processes to function correctly, over-acidity is a problem and can lead to hair loss. If one then also don’t drink any water during the day, the acidity stays in the body undiluted and this is where damage occurs.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Hi Basha, you can combine both onion juice and few crushed garlic, mix it with any hair oil of your choice like coconut oil/ castor oil /olive oil. Massage this oil on your scalp well and then rinse your hair after an hour or so with a mild shampoo. Follow this treatment regularly twice or thrice in a month for a couple of months for best results.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Yes Basha, it will be safe to use castor oil with cloves for hair, twice or thrice in a week.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Dear Judy, with aging nearly everyone has some hair loss with aging. The rate of hair growth also slows. Hair strands become smaller and have less pigment. Men may start showing signs of baldness by the time they are 30 years old. Women can develop a similar type of baldness as they age. This is called female-pattern baldness. One of the remedies that is effective is the application of onion juice. Regular application of onion juice on the scalp promotes hair growth. It is advisable to consult your doctor if you have sudden loss of hair and your doctor can also suggest an appropriate diet for you for healthy hair and wellness.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Hi Bridin, if you wish to grow your hair long then do follow a protein rich diet. Include eggs, chicken, tofu, soybean; kidney beans and other similar foods to your diet. Remedies like regular application of onion juice or egg mask will help you to boost the growth of hair.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Hi Surbhi, castor oil and olive oil are beneficial for hair growth. Also when you apply this oil on hair…heat the oil a little and massage it well on the scalp. Also apply oil to your hair before you hit the bed.. leave it overnight and wash your hair next morning. Do wash your hair before you step out, as oily hair attracts dust and dirt making the scalp greasy.

  • http://www.stylecraze.com/ StyleCraze

Hi GP, you can follow some of the home remedies regularly to get rid of dandruff without damaging the quality of hair.
    1. Coconut oil/ Olive oil – Coconut oil helps eliminate dandruff due to its anti fungal properties. It also moisturizes dry scalp and provides relief from itching. Olive oil too works in the same manner. Take some coconut oil or olive oil and mix half the amount of lemon juice in it. Rub it on your scalp and massage for a few minutes. Wash your hair after at least 20 minutes. Follow this remedy two to three times a week.

Follow this natural treatment two or three times a week.
Hope you find these tips to be useful. Do try them and share your experience with !!

Hi Vivek, thinning hair and losing hair can be a normal part of ageing or may be due to other causes. Age also makes hair become finer. Thinning of hair can be caused due to other reasons like poor diet, stress, certain medication, and thyroid problem etc. Application of raw onion juice on the scalp, once or twice in a week for a couple of months. Onion juice is rich in sulfur that boosts collagen production in the tissues and helps in re-growth of hair. Massaging warm oil like olive oil/ coconut oil / castor oil on the scalp for 10-15 mins improves blood circulation and boosts hair growth. If your hair fall persists then consult a doctor or dermatologist who may diagnose hair loss by carrying out a physical examination and checking your medical history.

Hi Krupa, hair colouring is a chemical process. Usually all the hair colors contain ammonia, which is a harsh chemical. Any harsh chemical you apply on your hair can dry your hair, frizz it up, increase breakage by reducing your hair’s elasticity, might corrode your scalp and also give you burns in worst cases. To care for your coloured hair, always use use a color-protecting shampoo that is sulfate free and use a color-protecting conditioner. Go for a regular hot oil treatment to reduce hair fall. Maintain a healthy diet to keep your hair looking great. Consume lean meat, fish, low-fat cheeses, egg whites, spinach and soy to keep your color-treated hair looking its best.
