Do you feel guilty every time you indulge in chocolates? I have a perfect way for you to fulfil your chocolate fix without feeling guilty. Who said chocolate is just for your tummy. You can use for to make your skin yummy too.

Chocolates are a great way of adding to your beauty, without adding calories. Don’t be amused. I am talking about the recent rage – chocolate face masks. Chocolate facial is getting popular by day. Rich in antioxidants, chocolate helps reverse the signs of ageing. It moisturizes your skin, protects the sun damage and tightens by maintaining the collagen production.

Chocolate Facial at Home

Step 1: Cleanse your face thoroughly to remove all the dirt and grime.

You may use a natural cleanser like milk or any other gentle chemical cleanser like Cetaphil cleansing lotion. Make sure you use something that you’ve tried before.

Step 2: Scrub away the dead cells.

Follow the steps below to prepare chocolate scrub.

Option 1:

Procedure:

  • Add 1 spoon of olive oil, brown sugar, a few drops of vanilla extracts (optional) to cocoa powder (about 1.5 spoons)
  • Mix these well together
  • Scrub your face in circular motion to remove all dead cells

Option 2: For Oily to Combination Skin

This scrub gently removes the dead cells, excess oil, dirt and grease from your face.

Procedure:

  • Make a paste of coco powder with water
  • Further add 2 teaspoons of sea salt. Sea salt exfoliates and helps remove dead cells. It also acts a detoxifier by absorbing the harmful toxins from the skin.
  • Then add a teaspoon of raw milk and mix well to form a scrub
  • Apply it evenly all over your face and scrub gently in circular motion
  • Leave it on for 10 minutes
  • Rinse off thoroughly with warm water

Option 3: For Dry Skin

This scrub gently removes the dead cells from your face and unclogs the pores without stripping off the moisture from your face.

Procedure:

  • Mix water and cocoa powder well together to form a mixture
  • Add ½ a teaspoon of brown sugar. Brown sugar removes dead cells without irritating and drying out the skin. It cleans the pores and helps reverse signs of ageing.
  • Add 1/2 a teaspoon of coconut oil/olive oil into it and mix well
  • You can also add oatmeal in this scrub
  • Apply this scrub all over your face
  • Gently exfoliate using your fingertips in circular motion
  • Rinse off after 10 minutes with warm water

Step 3: Tone you face.

Using a skin toner (you may use rose water or any other toner) tones your face to maintain the complexion of your skin and closes all open pores too.

Step 4: Moisturize your face.

Here is how to make chocolate cream at home.

  • Add a few spoons of cottage cheese (Paneer) to a cup of cocoa powder
  • Whip the two together
  • Add ½ cup honey to it
  • Again mix everything together
  • Apply the mixture to your face in upwards strokes
  • Leave it on your skin

Step 5: Apply your face Mask.
Here are the easiest chocolate face masks that you can make at home.

Option 1

Ingredients:

  • Pure dark chocolate (one bar)
  • Oatmeal (2 spoons)
  • Salt (4.5 spoons)
  • Milk (as needed)
  • Honey (4 spoons)
  • Curd (6 -7 spoons)
  • 2 Vitamin E capsules (optional)
  • Rice flour

Procedure:

  • Melt the chocolate and combine it with salt and milk
  • Add all other ingredients thereafter
  • Add rice flour in good quantity
  • Microwave the mask or heat it for a minute
  • Apply the mask only if it’s not too hot
  • Keep the mask on till it dries completely
  • Remove and wash it using Luke warm water

Procedure:

  • Melt a bar of dark chocolate in a double boiler
  • You can alternatively use dark coco powder too
  • I used coco powder and dissolved it in water such that no lumps remain
  • Further, add a teaspoon of gram flour (besan).It helps remove dirt and oil and tightens skin
  • Then add a teaspoon of curd (for oily skin) or cream (for dry skin)
  • Then add a teaspoon of fresh lime juice
  • Mix all the ingredients well, forming a smooth paste
  • Apply it all over the face
  • Leave it on for 20 minutes
  • Rinse off with warm water

Option 3

Procedure:

  • Mix a teaspoon of dark coco powder in water to form a smooth paste
  • Now add a teaspoon of clay (multani mitti)
  • Clay is rich in iron and a great cleanser and toner too and it lightens complexion
  • Finally, add a pinch of turmeric powder. Mix well forming a smooth mixture. Turmeric provides a healthy glow to the skin, making it soft and smooth. It also reduces pigmentation and dark spots
  • Apply it evenly all over the face
  • Leave it on for 15 minutes until it dries off completely
  • Rinse with warm water

Option 4

Things needed:

  • Dark chocolate bars
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • Saucepan
  • Bowl

Procedure:

  • First mix milk and salt together
  • Stir to dissolve salt in milk completely
  • Place the saucepan on medium heat and keep a bowl (preferably a glass bowl) on top with chocolate pieces
  • Make sure you melt the chocolate but not on direct heat
  • Keep stirring continuously till it melts completely.
  • Now add the already prepared milk and salt mixture to the melted dark chocolate
  • Stir till it melts. Keep it aside and wait till it comes to room temperature
  • You mask is ready to use now once it cools down
  • Apply the mask generously on your face
  • Relax for 15-20 minutes
  • Wash off thoroughly with a mild cleanser
  • Rinse your face properly to avoid smelling like chocolate

Option 5

Thing needed:

  • Chocolate spread
  • Honey
  • Butter
  • Sugar

Procedure:

  • Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl to get a smooth paste
  • Even it out on your skin and wait for 20 minutes.
  • Wash off with warm water and follow with a cool rinse

Caution:

Do not use this mask more than twice a month.

Option 6

This face mask is best suited for people with oily skin.

Things needed:

  • Cocoa
  • Honey
  • Gramflour (besan)
  • Curd

Procedure:

  • Mix 1/3 cup of cocoa powder with 4 tbsp of honey
  • Blend it well
  • For people with oily skin – add 2 tbsp of besan (gram flour) and 3 tbsp of curd to it. Besan will act as cleaning agent for your oily skin while curd will control oil secretion
  • Mix all the ingredients till you see a thick, brown coloured-batter
  • Spread the chocolate face mask evenly on your face
  • Leave it onto dry for at least 20 minutes
  • Wash off your face with lukewarm water

Option 7

This face mask is best suited for people with dry skin.

Things needed:

  • Cocoa powder
  • Honey
  • Oatmeal
  • Cream

Procedure:

  • Mix all the ingredients till you see a thick and brown batter
  • Apply it evenly
  • Leave it on for 20 minutes
  • Rinse off with lukewarm water to get a firmer smoother skin

Procedure:

  • Mix a teaspoon of dark coco powder in water to form a smooth paste
  • Boil a spoon full of tea leaves in water
  • When you see it imparting colour, remove from the heat.
  • Let it cool and add 2 teaspoons in the mixture
  • Now add a teaspoon of raw milk and mix well
  • Apply it evenly all over your face
  • Leave it on for at least 20 minutes
