The Best Bra Color to Wear Under White Shirts

Written by Saumya Gaur  •

What’s the one thing that all the ladies have to necessarily include in their outfits and it also has the power to make or break the entire outfit? Any idea? Well, ladies, it’s your bra.

In order to pull off a flawless look, you have to make sure that your bra is perfect, don’t you?

And by perfect, I mean that you’ve to ensure that every aspect of your bra is well-suited to your outfit, such as its type, fit, and yes, even its color.

To many, it may sound like an indulgence, but there are many reasons why a woman should buy bras in colors other than beige, white, and black. The color of the bra worn under an outfit, if complementary to the color of the outfit, serves to accentuate the outfit’s color. In case, the color of the bra isn’t complementary to the color of the outfit, it makes it stick out like a sore thumb.

So here’s a question for you ladies out there, what color bra do you prefer to wear when you are wearing a white shirt or a white t-shirt? If you are anything like me, I know you would say neutral or white. But you would be surprised to know that playing it safe by choosing such colors might not always work in your favor. Surprised to read that? Read on to know more.

No, It Isn’t White

Like most well-endowed women, I also buy bras in three primary colors — white, black, and beige. The most I’ve managed to experiment with bras in terms of color is buying a neon green sports bra, but that doesn’t count.

Therefore, obviously, I often wore a white bra under a white shirt. White seems like an obvious choice, but I was surprised to know it wasn’t actually all that great. I worked with the logic that choosing a white bra for a white shirt would allow the bra to blend in seamlessly with the shirt.

However, this reasoning of mine was inherently flawed. It turned out that the stark white bra was apparently contrasting against my skin, and that would be a giveaway. So, if you are also torn between a white bra or a neutral bra for a white piece of clothing, we suggest you go for a neutral colored one.

You Can Play It Safe With Neutrals

However, having said that, we would like to emphasize that there is no “one color works for all” philosophy when it comes to neutral colors. Sure, a neutral color has greater chances of matching your skin, which would help in making the bra seem invisible under the white shirt. But there’s a catch, you’ve to make sure that you choose a neutral color that works for your skin tone. You shouldn’t opt for a generic beige or chocolate color just because they are close approximations of your complexion.

In order to choose the perfect neutral color for yourself, you have to pay attention to the undertones of your skin. For example, if you have a peaches and cream complexion with blue undertones, then light pink is the best neutral color for you. And in case you have a warm complexion with yellow or golden undertones, then a latte-like hue or taupé color will work best for you. However, there’s a better option available which involves you taking a fashion risk.

It’s Red!

Yup, it’s red. Now before you accuse us of being colorblind here is our reasoning behind this statement. Our skin has red undertones which get subdued when you wear a red bra. This allows the bra to blend in seamlessly with our skin, making it seem invisible. Therefore, it’s the best bra color that you can wear under a white shirt.

However, a word of caution, you should again pay attention to the undertones of your skin to find the perfect shade of red that goes with it. For example, if you have a fair complexion, then you should opt for a blue-red shade, and if you have a more warm, olive skin tone then cranberry is the right shade for you. If you have a darker complexion, you should go for a scarlet shade or a wine burgundy shade.

We are pretty sure this little piece of information has taken you by surprise. But isn’t this a great way of adding a little fun quotient to your everyday dressing while still being discreet? Also, fashion favors the brave, so you can also try adding your own spin to this hack by opting for different styles of bra, such as lacy bralettes, bandeaus etc. So go on, try this hack for yourself and let us know the results.
