While thinking of butterflies, the first thing that comes to mind is a splash of colors! That’s what butterflies represent─colors and the vibrancy of life! I love nature, colors, and makeup. Combine all these together and you get beautiful, creative makeup ideas! Today, I have created a beautiful eye makeup look inspired by colorful butterflies. A splash of fresh colors on the eyes to get a look that is sure to attract attention. Learn how to do butterfly eye makeup through the following steps.
If colors attract you, then this tutorial is just perfect for you! Six easy steps—yes, that’s all you need to get this look right. Follow this butterfly eye makeup step by step tutorial and watch as nature comes alive on your eyes!
Start by moisturizing your delicate eye area with an eye cream. Then, apply a cream or liquid concealer to the under eye area to conceal pigmentation and dark circles. Set it with a loose powder to prevent creasing of the product. I used the Kryolan concealer and Lakme Face Stylist Compact Powder for this step.
Pick a creamy black eye pencil and apply it to the outermost corner of your eye in the shape of ‘c’. This step need not be neat as we would be smudging it later. Here I used the Maybelline Drama Gel Liner in black. It is best to use a creamy formula in this step as it will help in easy blending of the product.
Take a smudge brush or a pencil brush and gently smudge the kajal applied in the previous step. Do not pull the kajal towards the center of your eyelid; just slowly blur the rough edges of the kajal. If you do not have a smudge brush, you can use a cotton swab for this step.

Pick a matte black eyeshadow and apply it over the smudged kajal. Pat the eye shadow gently without sweeping it, as is usually done. If you want to intensify the eye shadow color, you can also wet the brush slightly with water. Then, pick a bright orange eyeshadow in matte finish and apply it to the center of the eyelid. Apply a soft shimmery yellow-gold eyeshadow to the innermost corner and tear duct area of your eyes.
Apply a white eyeshadow to the brow bone area of your eyes to highlight and create a brighter effect to your eyes. If you wish to make the eye shadow pop and appear vibrant, you can apply a creamy white base prior to the application of the eyeshadow on your brow bone area. Then, pick a fluffy blending brush to gently blend out all the eyeshadows softly for a smokey look.
Line your eyes with black liquid eyeliner. You can line it thickly or thinly according to your preference. Then, curl your eyelashes with mascara to complete the eye makeup look.
If you are looking for subtle eye makeup look, then you can stop it here, otherwise add random smaller dots to the outermost corner of your eyes to replicate the white dot pattern on the butterfly.
A butterfly look for the social butterfly! Nothing over the top, this look has colors and shades that anyone can sport. Perfect for evening parties and other special events, this butterfly inspired look will definitely help you stand apart in a crowd! Try it, I promise you’ll love it! But I can’t promise that your friends won’t turn green with envy though!
