How To Use Henna For Hair Growth August 18, 2017

Who doesn’t want healthy hair that grows fast? Yeah, I can’t think of anyone either. But with all of the “long & strong” and “hair growth” labels we see in supermarkets, how is one to know what they should be putting in their hair? One way to go about it would be to pick products that are free of harmful chemicals. Or better yet, you could make your own products.

DIY hair growth treatments can be greatly beneficial, especially when you are using ingredients like henna. Below, I’ve put together a list of seven henna hair growth treatment recipes, but first, let us look at how henna helps boost hair growth.

Benefits Of Henna For Hair Growth

1. Maintains Scalp Health

Henna can be quite cooling to the scalp. This, in combination with it antimicrobial properties, helps maintain scalp health. It helps fight off scalp conditions like dandruff.

2. Balances Oil Production And pH Levels

Not only does henna keep issues like dandruff at bay, it is also an excellent ingredient for balancing oil production and the pH of your scalp. It removes the excess oil from your hair, helping unclog follicles, and also restoring normal functioning of the sebaceous glands.

3. Boosts Hair Growth And Stops Hair Fall

The boosted scalp health, unclogging of pores, and balanced pH levels put a stop to hair loss and promote healthy hair growth. Not only will henna help your hair grow faster, but it will also improve hair texture.

4. Repairs And Strengthens Hair

The nutrients in henna help nourish your hair while also repairing the damage. The balancing of the pH levels also helps seal the hair cuticle, leading to locks that are more lustrous. This helps improve hair elasticity.

5. Conditions Hair

Henna builds a protective barrier around each one of your hair shafts, locking in moisture and keeping your hair conditioned. It can be especially beneficial when used in hair packs in combination with other hydrating ingredients. Henna helps minimize issues such as hair breakage and split ends.

Henna For Hair Growth – Side Effects And Precautions

It is crucial to ensure that the henna you are using is 100% organic. This is because most henna powders available on the market include harsh chemicals such as PPD (Paraphenylenediamine) to improve the color results. These chemicals can cause the following problems:

  • Paraphenylenediamine is an allergen that can cause adverse reactions upon contact with skin. You might not have a reaction from the first couple of uses, but the more your skin comes in contact with the chemical, the more likely you are to have an allergic reaction.
  • The chemicals added to henna powders can also be extremely drying. The chemicals may end up overprocessing your hair, causing it to become rough, dry, and unmanageable. This leads to issues like breakage, bad hair texture, and extremely unmanageable hair.
  • If henna comes in contact with your eyes, it can cause redness, irritation, watery eyes, and itching. If this happens to you, rinse your eyes with cold water immediately. If problems persist, visit an eye specialist as soon as possible.

With this out of the way, let us look at the different ways in which you can use henna to promote hair growth.

I have TTM,which causes me to pull my hair out. I recently had my eyebrows henna tattooed. I noticed crazy amount of growth in 3 days! I think this is going to be my solution for re-growing my eyebrows. I have used biotin and rogaine, which have worked but not as fast as henna.

I used henna on my dark hair when I was younger and loved the results. As I got older I lightened my hair so henna was not an option. Having recently had problems with thinning hair as well as grey/fading natural color I recently went back to using a natural henna. The results have been amazing, my hairline grey is covered completely and hasn’t faded/washed out as it did with commercial coloring products. The natural henna has colored my sparse grey hairs a beautiful copper color and enhanced my brown with copper highlights. The thinning areas are beginning to fill in and my hair has more body. I love henna!!
