Written by StyleCraze  •

The human body is 60% water. You know that without breathing you cannot survive… well, the same is the case with water. Have you ever felt a groping pain in the head when you go for meetings one after the other, ignoring the needs of your body? Dehydration is the cause. The fact that you are feeling thirsty is in itself your body’s mechanism of shouting that you are terribly dehydrated! Dehydration is perhaps the worse condition your body can suffer from.

There are 11 major reasons why it is important to drink water. Scroll down to read them.

1. Digestive Disorders

Ulcers, acid reflux, and gastritis are not pleasing things to happen. If you do not want to suffer from such digestive issues, drink more water so that you are also continuously supplemented with alkaline minerals like magnesium and calcium. These minerals ease digestion. Moreover, drinking more water also helps in faster transportation of nutrients to the various parts of your body.

2. Constipation

If you are among the ones whose toilet experience is often painful and disappointing, it might be due to the lack of water! The colon sucks in much water to provide fluid for the proper functioning of other body systems. The food waste pathway is slower when your colon is dehydrated, resulting in pain and constipation. Regular history of constipation may lead to painful conditions like fissures and piles as well.

3. Kidney Problem

It is horrid to have pain and inflammation while you are urinating. This happens mainly because your body does not have enough water to eliminate the toxins. Which is why it potently cultures bacteria, resulting in infection. Not only does it affect the smooth functioning of your kidney and bladder in the long run, but also promotes urinary tract infections. Developing UTIs can pose a risk for reproductive functions. Renal disorders are sometimes worse than heart attacks or any such fatal diseases.

4. Skin Disorders

The toxins in your body could be eliminated only by drinking water. This applies to the largest organ of your body as well – the skin. Unless properly hydrated, your skin would lose its glow and start to discolor and wrinkle. You will be more susceptible to pigmentation and all sorts of horrible skin infections like psoriasis, dermatitis, etc. Who would want a skin without radiance?

5. High Blood Pressure

It is a known fact that 92% of blood is water. Severe dehydration = thicker blood. This results in high blood pressure as there is heavy tension in the arteries and vessels.

6. High Cholesterol

This is your body’s automatic mechanism to combat dehydration. The cells produce more cholesterol. Higher cholesterol leads to many heart issues, in addition to making people fat.

7. Asthma And Allergies

Your body produces higher levels of histamine when it is low on water. It is the body’s mechanism to restrict the air passage to conserve water in case you are dehydrated. This can result in asthmas and allergies.

8. Joint Stiffness

Joint repair could be very slow when the cartilage paddings of your joints are weakened. Since cartilage is made up of water, there can be no greater damage to it than dehydration. Joint stiffness means less work productivity and sleepless nights.

9. Fatigue

The enzymatic activities in your body will slow down if your body is not properly hydrated, as you are cutting down an important source of energy. The result? You will feel fatigued.

10. Weight Gain

Dehydration=loss of energy in cells. You tend to consume more calories by eating food to regain your ‘lost energy’ when actually you are thirsty. Drinking water=proper hydration + 0 calories. Hence, there is no point in dieting unless you are sure you are properly hydrated.

11. Premature Aging

When continuously dehydrated, all your system would start shutting down one by one – causing endless complications, like the ones that happen in old age. Moreover, you will get a lot of wrinkles. I am sure you wouldn’t want premature aging to happen to you!

You might be thinking perhaps that it is okay if you have a can of coke to replenish yourself. No, it isn’t. Not only does it pump more sugar and calories into your body, but also the lack of water decreases the chance of dilution and elimination of the extra sugar and salt from your body. This is why you tend to bloat up when on a diet, but not consuming adequate water.

Wake up to three glasses of water on an empty stomach for real clean bowels and also for toning down. Make sure you drink an extra glass of water for every cup of coffee, every glass of sweetened juice, or smoothie. Drinking a minimum of two liters of water per day is great! Also, make sure you keep your water bottle handy and drink a sip now and then. An easy way to track water consumption would be to carry a half liter or one liter bottle and to refill it many times.

Moreover, if you really want to slim down, drink at least two glasses of water before every meal. You will feel fuller, eat lesser. It is a secret trick for dieting. Drink more water for a healthier you.
