We get wisdom tooth between the ages of 17-25. It pains like crazy when the wisdom tooth appears and the bad news is that it really has nothing to do with wisdom. I mean, I can bear a little pain if it really make me wise, but going through that acute pain for nothing, duh!
Now, you might be thinking why it pains so much to have a wisdom tooth. The reason is that this wisdom tooth is basically what you can call an intruder among the gang of already ruling teeth in your mouth. Therefore, they try to stop it from emerging. And we pay for their civil war! Actually, this whole thing is called impaction – growing under another tooth or wedged between the jawbone and another tooth. This impaction is the reason behind the wisdom tooth pain.
But, the good news is you do not have to suffer more. Apart from venting your pain by screaming and cursing, there are many effective home remedies to offer you relief from wisdom tooth pain.
Have a glimpse at the best remedies that would work effectively to reduce wisdom tooth pain:
1. Oil Pulling:
Oil pulling is our ancient method to ensure our oral health. It is said that if you do oil pulling every morning you will never have any tooth, gum or mouth related diseases. Oil pulling not only eliminates toxins, but also soothes pains in teeth and gums. Take some coconut oil or sesame oil in your mouth and swish it for 15-20 minutes. Then spit the oil out and wash your mouth with warm water. It will help in relieving wisdom tooth pain.
Clove is an effective home remedy for wisdom tooth pain. There are two methods of using clove. First, you can rub and massage some clove oil on the spot where the wisdom tooth is emerging. Second, you can place a clove on that area and keep it there without chewing or spitting until the pain subsides.
3. Olive Oil:
Heat some olive oil and let it cool until it becomes lukewarm. Now pour a few drops of this warm olive oil in the ear on the side where you feel the pain.
Take some soft cheese, such as cheddar and mozzarella and place a small amount of it on the growing tooth. This will soothe the pain as well as prevent bleeding gums.
5. Guava Leaves:
Boil some guava leaves in some water for 3 minutes. Now, chew these boiled leaves for 30 seconds and then spit them out. It will offer some from the pain.
6. Heat Pack:
Use a heat pack or a hot water pack or bottle. Place it on the side of the jaw where you are experiencing the toothache. Keep it there until the pain and swelling subsides.
7. Peanut Butter:
Massaging some peanut butter gently on the aching tooth helps in relieving the pain. Keep applying the peanut butter repeatedly.
8. Mustard Oil:
According to Ayurveda, massaging mustard oil on your gums strengthens them and gives you strong teeth. Heat some mustard oil and let it cool down to lukewarm. Then gently massage this oil on the aching area. You can add some sea salt to it too.
9. Ice Pack:
Take an ice pack or put some ice in a handkerchief to make an ice pack. Now put that ice pack on the side of your jaw where the ache is.
10. Cinnamon Oil:
Massaging some cinnamon oil on the spot of pain also helps. It tingles at first, but then help in alleviating the pain.
Boil some water and mix some salt in it. Now swish the mixture in your mouth for 5 minutes and then spit it out. Repeat it 3 more times.
12. Tea Tree Oil:
Massage little tea tree oil on the growing tooth for about 5 minutes. Also, massage the gum area with this oil. Wash your mouth to find instant relief.
13. Apple Cider Vinegar:
Swish some apple cider vinegar in your mouth for a few minutes and then spit it out. This remedy offers immediate relief.
Dab a cotton ball in vanilla essence. Place this vanilla infused cotton ball on the wisdom tooth directly. It helps to relieve the pain.
Slice an onion and put that onion slice between your teeth on the growing wisdom tooth. Keep it there and gently bite it time to time to get some juice on your tooth.
Garlic has amazing antibiotic properties. Put a garlic slice or put some garlic juice on the area of the toothache. This helps in relieving the pain.
17. Black Tea Bag:
Black tea and tea bag both individually and together help in relieving toothache. Take a tea bag of black tea and boil it. Now place this hot, wet tea bag on your aching tooth for a while.
Dab some peppermint on the affected area for pain relief. You can also use peppermint oil. Using peppermint mouthwash also helps.
19. Ginger Root:
Take a slice of ginger root and place it on your aching tooth. Bite the piece repeatedly to extract its juice. It will effectively soothe the pain.
20. Wheatgrass Juice:
Drinking freshly prepared wheatgrass juice helps with wisdom tooth pain. Homegrown wheatgrass is preferable and is more effective.
Put some oregano leaves or powder on the aching tooth. Chew the leaves a little to get the juice. It has antiseptic properties.
Swish some vinegar in your mouth for a few minutes and spit it out. Wash your mouth afterwards.
Xylitol is a natural sugar that helps teeth to grow. Put some xylitol powder on the aching area to help grow the wisdom tooth without any pain.
24. Massage And Tap:
Simply massaging the area where the tooth is growing and tapping it 2-3 times helps to ease the pain.
25. Sage And Whiskey:
Mix 2 tablespoons of sage powder in a shot of whiskey. Let the liquid sit and infuse for 10 minutes. Now swish the liquid in your mouth for 2-3 minutes and spit it out. Repeat if required.
