6 Amazing Tamarind Face Packs And Uses June 25, 2016

The sweet and tangy tamarind is found in almost every Indian kitchen. We love having it as a sweet candy, jelly or chutney. But do you know that apart from its yummy taste and its known health benefits, tamarind can also be included in your beauty routine?

This tangy tropical fruit is a powerhouse of antioxidants, flavanoids and vitamin C and A, which help fight against the formation of free radicals. Tamarind when applied on skin soothes irritation and inflammation. It lightens the skin and reduces dark spots and pigmentation.

How To Make Tamarind Face Mask:

1. Instant Lightening Pack:

You cannot use raw tamarind as it may irritate your skin. So we firstly boil around 30 grams of tamarind in 100 ml of water. After a few minutes, remove it from the flame, cool it and extract the pulp from it.

  • Take a teaspoon of the prepared pulp in a bowl.

  • Add ½ a teaspoon of turmeric powder in it and mix well.

  • Form a smooth paste and apply on the face.

  • Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

2. Instant Bleaching:

This homemade tamarind face mask contains all the natural bleaching agents. It is useful for removing acne scars, dark patches and pigmentation. Tamarind also helps to lighten skin tone.

  • Take a teaspoon of the prepared pulp in a bowl.

  • Into it add a teaspoon of lemon juice.

  • Then add a teaspoon of honey and mix well to form a smooth paste.

  • Apply all over the face and keep for 15 minutes.

  • Rinse off with warm water.

3. Face Scrub:

Tamarind contains natural fruit acids which help to remove impurities and dead cells giving a polished skin. It also contains AHA (alpha- hydroxy acids) which acts as an exfoliater.

  • In the pulp, a teaspoon of sea salt. This acts as an exfoliater by gently removing the oil and grease from the skin.

  • Then add a teaspoon of curd/cream. If you have an oily skin, use curd else if you have normal to dry skin use cream.

  • Mix well to form a smooth paste and gently scrub in circular motion.

4. Tamarind Facial:

This facial gives you that extra glow and provides instant visible results. Use twice a week for effective results.

  • In the tamarind water, add a teaspoon of gram flour (besan).

  • Then add a teaspoon of honey and mix well to form a paste.

  • Apply it all over and leave it for 20 minutes.

  • Scrub gently and rinse with warm water.

5. Body Scrub:

This body scrub is ideal for oily and acne prone skin due the antimicrobial properties of tamarind. But avoid the contact with eyes and skin and do not apply after shaving or waxing as it may irritate your skin.

  • In the tamarind pulp, add a teaspoon of lemon juice.

  • The add ½ teaspoon of baking soda.

  • Finally put a teaspoon of brown/white sugar. This acts a mild and effective exfoliater.

  • After mixing it well, gently scrub all over your body.

  • Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water.

6. Hydrating Toner:

We all are familiar with the hydrating properties of tea. Green and black tea contains anti-ageing elements which help to fight against the formation of free radicals. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Tamarind also makes your face radiant and smooth.

  • Take 2 teaspoons of the above prepared tamarind water.

  • To this add 2 teaspoons of tea water (tea leaves boiled in water).

  • Dip a cotton wool into this toner, and apply all over the skin after cleansing. Let the skin absorb the toner naturally.
