The joy of parenthood comes along with a whole lot of doubts and questions. No doubt it is a new phase of your life, and you must start preparing for it. However, after the initial euphoria, the big question you keep on asking yourself is – is it a ‘daughter’ or a ‘son’?
The growing family gets extremely impatient, even the 4 month wait till the reveal seems too much. You must know that some countries don’t even allow the gender determination tests. And even if you are in one of those countries where you can find out if it is going to be a sweet little girl or a bratty boy, do you think your mind will be at rest? What if the doctor is wrong? Well, the ifs and buts can continue through your nine beautiful months of pregnancy, but while you do go through it, a little fun will not hurt. Plus, though this is not scientifically backed, it has been accurate 85% of the time, so that’s a big positive.
For time immemorial, from the west to the far east, there have been so many people who can just look at a woman, and reveal one of nature’s best-kept secrets. While some people have this knack, others need to rely on, well, let’s just say gimmicks. There is one that has caught my eye recently, and I can’t wait to see how accurate it is. So all you mommies to be, listen up, you are in for the big reveal.
Baking Soda Can Help You Determine The Sex Of Your Child
OMG! I flipped when I heard this. How is it even possible? What do you do? Well, it’s quite simple. All you need to do is collect a little bit of urine in a clean plastic container (that you can throw away later of course!), and add about two tablespoons of baking soda to it. And then, (wait for it), notice what happens. If the solution bubbles up like a freshly opened can of soda, you are going to have a baby boy. If the solution remains flat, it’s a girl! How simple is that? 7 out of 10 mommies say it worked for them.
Interesting, isn’t it, I mean who would have chanced upon this, and how? It totally intrigues me. But this is just one of the many gender prediction tests. There are so many more. Interested? Here’s a quick list of a few others that I know of.
1. The Ring On The String Method
I remember this being an old wives’ tale. It’s quite simple though, and no mess. All you need to do is tie a string around your wedding ring, and hold it over your belly. You could also hold it over your wrist. You must make sure everything else is absolutely still, to notice the movement of the ring. If the ring moves in circles, you are going to have a girl, and if it moves from side to side, it’s a boy!
2. The Red Cabbage Test
This is yet another popular gender prediction test. All you need to do is chop up the head of a red cabbage, and put it in a bowl. Pour some boiling water over it, and let it blanch for ten minutes. Then, strain the water into a clear plastic container. (Dinner is sorted, you can make a yummy salad with the blanched cabbage, that ways, nothing goes waste.) Remember, the liquid in the container should look blue-ish. Now, collect your pee in another clear plastic container. Pour equal parts of cabbage liquid and urine in another container. Notice what happens! If the liquid turns pink or red, it’s a BOY! If it turns into a lovely violet, it’s a GIRL! A whole lot of women have tried this, and guess what, it works!
3. The Acne Test
We’ve all heard that when a beautiful baby girl is in the womb, she steals her mother’s beauty. They say that if you have too many pimples on your face when you are expecting, you are, in all likeliness, carrying a baby girl. If not, it’s a boy!
4. The Odd-Even Mayan System
They have been doing it for time immemorial. The Mayans state that if the age of the mother at the time she conceived, and the year she conceived in, are both either odd or even, the expecting family will have a girl. If one is even, and the other odd, you have your answer, it’s a boy! A whole lot of women have had this work for them. While it is true the Mayans couldn’t predict the end of the world accurately, they sure have this one on point.
5. The Chinese Gender Calendar
They say this chart was found in an ancient tomb in Beijing. This is one of the most well known and popular methods of gender prediction. All you need to do is determine your age at conception, and then the month of conception. See where they meet on the chart, and that’s your answer.
The Chinese also believe that if the mother’s birth date and the lunar month are both either odd or even, a girl is on her way. If one of the two is odd, you are probably going to have a baby boy!
So, now that you have found out, you can go ahead and decide the color of your nursery. I’d say, make it yellow or green. It’s high time we free our children and our society of gender prejudices. You don’t have to plan differently for a son or a daughter! They are both a symbol of the love you and your husband share. While all of this is fun, remember not to take it too seriously.
