Get Your Body Ready For Summer With 8 Beauty Tips

Written by Tanya Arora  •

Summer is the season where less is more. Dresses, tops, skirts, and shorts that bare your legs and arms automatically find their way to the most accessible shelf of your wardrobe, turning into daily staples you just can’t do without!

However, the journey from staying covered up to baring skin is not a smooth one for everyone. The extra weight and lack of overall maintenance can make you feel like you’re not quite summer ready yet!

We’ve got you covered though. Here are 8 beauty tips to help you and your body get summer ready:

1. Prepare Your Facial Skin

Winter and summer face care routines are starkly different! During winter, your facial skin is more susceptible to damage caused by harsh winds and the changes in temperature. Therefore, you should take proper care of your skin before summer comes knocking on your door.

At this point, scrubs and other skin-exhausting treatments are a major no-no. To prepare your skin, you should use mild, homemade cleansers and tonics. You can remove the excess oil with the help of cleansers made of parsley, rosemary or cornflower. For dry skin though chamomile is ideal.

2. Prepare Your Body Skin

The dryness and harshness of winter temperatures combined with heating systems at home can make your body skin very dry. To get it summer ready, you’ll have to moisturize your skin intensely. Coconut oil is an amazing moisturizer if you’re looking for a natural alternative.

3. Get Your B-Line Ready

Planning to hit the beach in your newest bikini? Shaving your b-line is an absolute must! However, using a razor, although convenient, can leave visible black dots as well as severe itchiness.

A great alternative is waxing. It’ll make your skin smooth and hair-free and you don’t even have to do it often! However, remember to exfoliate at least twice each week post-waxing if you don’t want ingrown hair.

As for the dark spots near/on your bikini line, you should moisturize post-showering to lighten and even out your skin tone. Special lotions are available in the market that even prevent the occurrence of ingrown hair.

4. Work Towards Smoother, Lighter Underarms

Dark underarms are a big summer season problem. You can lighten them easily though with this homemade cream:

Add 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder to 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 3 teaspoons of honey and juice of half a lime into a small bowl. Make a thick paste out of these ingredients and apply the cream formed to your underarms after cleaning them thoroughly. Leave the cream on for 20 minutes, wash off, and moisturize.

5. Get Flat Abs

There’s only one way to look good in your crop tops and bathing suits – having flat abs. The ball exchange exercise can help you get a flat tummy:

In this exercise, you have to lie down on your back, keeping your legs straight and your arms over your head with a gym ball in your hands. Now bring the ball down to your chest, raising your legs to touch the ball. Transfer the ball from your hands to in between your ankles, making the ball touch the floor as you straighten your legs. Do it 10-12 times.

6. Tone Up Your Muffin Tops

Working out your abs won’t be enough if you have a muffin top or fat over your waistline. You can do these exercises to get rid of it though:

In the ‘dead bug’ exercise, you are supposed to lie on the floor with your legs raised to a 90° and your arms pointing straight upward. Next you’ll have to move your left arm and place it under your head as you simultaneously lower your right leg but don’t touch the floor. Coming back to the start position completes 1 rep, and repeating the process with your other leg and arm completes one set. Do 10 sets.

In the ‘double crisscross’ exercise, you have to lay on your back with your knees pressed to your chest and your head resting on your palms. Pressing your left knee close to your chest, straighten your right leg and bring your right shoulder close to your knee. Do this 2 times and repeat with the other leg and arm to complete one set. Repeat 20 times.

7. Work Out Your Glutes

The glutes are the muscles in your bottom. Toning them up is essential if you want to create the perfect silhouette in your dresses and shorts. Squats are a simple and easy exercise to get your glutes in shape without much effort. You could also try out other exercises such as rainbows or single-leg glute bridges.

8. Start Eating Healthy

Summer season means no binging on heavy, greasy foods. With a more intense exercise routine, you’ll also have to start eating healthier. Increasing your water intake is also a must and you should try eating natural diuretics like green tea, cucumbers, etc. to keep yourself cool. Try cutting down on processed carbs as well as alcohol as they can lead to weight gain.

Although these beauty tips are meant to help you look and feel better, never forget the fact that you’re beautiful just the way you are, despite the imperfections. Happy summer!
