Science Proves Gluten Sensitivity Isn’t Real – People Are Just Whiners

Do you always line up at the gluten-free counter at your grocer’s only to maintain a healthy diet? You might be seriously wrong in judging yourself to be gluten sensitive.

It is finally proven that the gluten-free diet needs to be followed only by people suffering from the auto-immune disorder, Celiac disease, found only in one among 100 people. The protein (gluten) found in wheat, rye, etc. damages the villi lining on their small intestine, resulting in poor nutrient absorption and higher digestive stress. Wait! The common Celiac disease symptoms like ADHD behavior, abdominal pain, bloating, depression, etc. may also be found in NCGS (Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitive) people, which is largely self-diagnosed. Peter Gibson, Professor of Gastroenterology, Monash University, said that gluten did not act like a nocebo (an inert component that has adverse effects in patients) in NCGS people. He was updating his 2011 study that stated that gluten caused serious gastrointestinal stress in non-celiac patients too. This time, he conducted an experiment with 37 people who were confirmed to be non-celiac, and subjected them to different diet patterns they weren’t aware of. The diet, sometimes, was completely gluten-free, and sometimes, included a rich combination of high gluten (16 gms), low gluten (2 gms), and whey protein isolate (placebo – 14gms). He found out that, in either case, those persons who complained of gastrointestinal problems like bloating or abdominal pain continued with the complaint, and they had no apparent physical causes to point out to. That is to say, they were just whiners.

The entire propaganda over the gluten-free diet has now been proven to be just another sale tactic of global food companies that make huge deals of profit in making ‘gluten ok’ people to ‘gluten-sensitive’ ones. Companies are aiming at a huge shoot up of $5 billion increase in profit over two years (10.5 million in 2013 to 15 million in 2015). Moreover, the GFD (gluten-free diet) has been found to be self-initiated due to such propaganda of a healthy living in 44 percent of people, whereas the remaining population is normally advised GFD by dietitians, medical practitioners, and other health professionals. Also, mob psychology works best here. A person having any amount of digestive stress (essentially non-celiac) with friends who have a typical case of gluten sensitivity is more prone to be put on GFD.

To sum it up, it is found out that gluten sensitivity can be just another psychological problem that you have to fight with because a complete elimination of foods you are used to having will result only in serious nutritional deficiencies. Gluten-free products, where these elastic proteins, gliadin and glutenin are removed from the goods available in the market, normally are low in nutrients like vitamin B, calcium, magnesium, and fiber. Moreover, the cost of these gluten-free products, say for instance, pasta or any such ready-to-eat, is comparatively higher than the normal ones. That is to say, your average monthly grocery bill may shoot up to thrice its normal value.

You are not the only one who has suffered from this – a survey by the Mayo Clinic says that 18 million Americans were on GFD, while it needed to be followed only by 1.8 million people diagnosed with Celiac disease. Nothing is ever too late! Don’t feel guilty anymore when you see yourself succumbing to the temptations of those splendid pastries or chocolates. You might not be sensitive to gluten at all!
