The American Music Awards, 2016 took place last week, and celebrities stepped out in their most fashionable regalia to make us go green with envy. Well, now that all the fashion reviews and listicles are out of the way, let’s show some love to all the on-point hairstyles that elevate the designer dresses worn by these celebrities to the next level. So here’s our rundown of the top 10 hair looks sported on the AMA’s red carpet this year!

10. Simple Ponytail—Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez has never been the one to go for very flamboyant hairstyles. So the simple sleeked down low ponytail that she sported with a center parting came as no big surprise. However, the hairstyle paired with her unembellished scarlet gown perfectly. Besides, after her tear-jerking speech about her struggles with mental and physical illness, I was too much of a teary mess to focus on her hair.

9. Backcombed Wave—Gigi Hadid

I don’t know about y’all, but to me, Gigi Hadid looks like a vamp straight out of a telenovella in this hair look. Not that I’m complaining. The girl probably looks gorgeous with 3-day-old hair. Anyway, Hadid has opted for some simple waves, backcombed the hair at the top of her head to create some volume, and used some hair gel to sleek down her hair.

8. Super Curly High Bun—Tinashe

Going by her hair style, Tinashe looks like she has time traveled from a wedding in the 1800s straight to the AMA 2016 red carpet. But the look works and how! The high bun at the top and the ringlets of curls falling softly down the sides to frame her face work to create a truly romantic look. *saves picture as reference for all the imaginary dates I go on*

7. Boy Cut—Keke Palmer

If there’s anyone who does a good hair transformation, it’s Keke Palmer. The girl never repeats hairstyles! For the AMAs this year, she went for a chic and easy to maintain boy cut and worked the hell out of it. Paired with some pink sunglasses and an elegant silver choker, she looked like an absolute diva.

6. Barbie’s Poker Straight Hair—Julianne Hough

Dancer Julianne Hough ditched her short bob and went all out with super long platinum blonde extensions to rock the AMAs red carpet. The no-nonsense poker straight hair that is parted down the middle may lack any frills and fancies, but it sure does create one helluva dramatic look. You slay, girl!

5. Hot Wheels Ramp Hair—Z Lala

No, that’s not Lady Gaga. That’s multi-lingual electropop singer Z Lala…and her hair. And, I don’t know what to make of that outlandish hairdo either. All I know is that it looks like one of those Hot Wheels race tracks I used to play with as a kid. And let’s not even try to guess how much hair gel and how many extensions went into making this hairdo possible. You do you, girl!

4. Oil Slick Hair—Tyka Nelson

Tyka Nelson may well be the sister of the legendary singer, Prince, but she sure as hell is a singer in her own right. Showing us all that age has no barrier when it comes to following popular hair color trends, Nelson sported the ‘oil slick’ hair look in shades of deep purple, blue, and pink. She left the beautifully color blended hair in largely unstyled loose waves.

3. Rock Chic French Braids—Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev channeled her inner rocker chick at the AMAs by going for a black and silver ensemble and pairing it with accent French braids. She added a metallic twist to her French braids by dusting them with generous amounts of silver glitter and leaving the rest of her hair down in relaxed waves.

2. Close Shave—Halsey

Don’t you love it when a celebrity defies all beauty standards and does whatever the hell she wants? Perhaps that’s why I love Halsey’s close shaved look that she has been sporting for a while now. Dressed in an all-white jumpsuit and that banging hair look Halsey looked every bit the rebel that her music makes her out to be.

1. Neon Green And Glittery Hair—Bella Thorne

This is, without a doubt, the best hair look that was sported, not only at the AMAs this year, but at any award show in a while now. Bella Thorne threw caution to the wind and went for a bright neon green hair color that looked like she had dipped her hair in a vat of Nickelodeon slime (remember those days?) before heading on to the red carpet. As if the striking contrast between her natural flaming red hair and the crazy green wasn’t enough, she dusted silver glitter all over her hair to finish off the look. I don’t know about you, but I’m in love with the manic biker pixie look that I assume she was going for.
