There are times when your vagina hurts like hell, but girl, you are not alone! The cause and amount of pain vary from person to person, but if you find yourself in a situation where your lady part hurts at even the slightest stimulation, then trust me, the reason behind that pain may be something serious. It could be a result of various factors.

Here are some reasons why your vagina hurts.

1. Vaginal Dryness

Not only post-menopausal women, but many young women as well suffer from vaginal dryness that, in turn, makes sex painful. One of the root causes of vaginal dryness is the intake of birth control pills that are low in estrogen, which makes the vagina dry. Thus, if you feel that your vagina doesn’t lubricate the way it used to earlier, consult a doctor.

2. Yeast Infections

Yeast infections do not actually cause pain, but they do lead to dryness and itchiness in the vagina. It’s very common for girls to experience yeast infections from time to time. It is recommended to consult your doctor right away so that they will prescribe an antifungal cream for you.

3. Herpes

Research proves that one in every six Americans suffers from sexually transmitted infections. The symptoms include soreness, itching, and a burning sensation in the vagina. You might also find some difficulty in urinating. Though herpes is noncurable, you must contact your ob-gyn if you notice the above symptoms. Treatment will help ease the pain and reduce the frequency of outbreaks.

4. Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia is a condition where you notice a swelling in the external structures of the female genitalia, i.e., the labia, the clitoris, and the vaginal opening. Women suffering from vulvodynia experience intense pain in the vagina or while having intercourse and even while inserting tampons.

5. Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases

This is an infection that is caused in the female reproductive organs when the tissue of the womb or the uterine lining grows in other spots, causing pain and inflammation. One common symptom of the pelvic inflammatory disease is excess bleeding during menstruation.

6. Your Partner’s Penis

Well, this reason might be a surprising one, but yes, your partner’s penis, especially if it’s too large, can also cause pain in your vagina. The best way to avoid it is to go easy while having an intercourse and switch to positions that you both find comfortable.

The best way to avoid vaginal pain is to maintain proper hygiene down there. Clean your vagina with a mild soap and avoid using chemicals, gels, vaginal creams, or douches.

Vaginal pain can be a symptom of a serious condition, and the moment you realize there’s something wrong with your lady part, consult your ob-gyn as soon as possible.
