Shocking! Test Shows Honey Isn’t Exactly Honey

Do you swear by a warm glass of water with some honey and lemon to burn up those calories every morning? Do you love to slather a slice of bread with dollops of dripping honey when hunger strikes at midnight? Does your plan to transform from Princess Fiona to Queen Elsa involve an orange-honey face pack? What if we tell you that the honey you trust so blindly isn’t as healthy as you thought? Shocked and shattered if that’s your reaction, then you are in for a lot of myth busting heartbreak.

Wait! We are not simply telling you your whole life has been a lie. We have proof. Mass produced honey, those off-the-counter bottles of nectar you purchase, lack real pollen. Too much science? Well, simply put, most of the store-bought honey is artificially processed and diluted super sweet gooey fluid in a jar. A process called ultra-filtering removes anything natural from the honey we eat. Tests have also shown that this honey has unsafe amounts of antibiotics and heavy metals. If you are looking askance trying to wrap your head around it, all of this is toxic. Most of this honey in the market comes from China. Surprise! A few samples of Indian honey too have been found to be anything but the natural nectar bees toil day in and day out to make for us. Be it a supermarket or those big box stores, or even your trusted pharmacy, everyone is selling you artificial flavors in the name of honey.

So, honey, from where do you get your honey then?

At the cost of punning it out, go natural. Yes, it’s as simple as that. Get your feet dirty at the local farmer’s market scouting for honey – without the wherewithal of large scale mass processing, chances are you will land yourself rich, natural, healthy honey. Better still, find a local beekeeper and make friends with him! If all of this feels like too much work for a cup of warm water every morning, then go back to that dastardly supermarket, but this time to the organic aisle. Look for the “organically sourced” label when buying honey off the counter. Steer clear of corporate brands, all they peddle is sweet poison.

Just like all things glittery isn’t gold, every bear-shaped bottle promising honey isn’t healthy. The next time you are at the supermarket, don’t just read the long bill statement with intent. Take some time to search for the real deal. For, health-conscious or not, a little “real” honey never harmed anyone.
