“Eating is perhaps the single most important act for one’s yoga practice because nourishment of the body’s tissues form a foundation for the nourishment of the mind and emotions,” says Scott Blossom, a famous Ayurvedic educator and yoga teacher in California.

A proper yogic diet is a healthy and nutritious combination of fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes. Each food has a different effect on each part of your brain. If you want to meditate, it is very important that the food must be light, nutritious, and Sattvic. Avoid fried food, processed foods, canned foods, overly cooked foods, and non-vegetarian foods including eggs, fish, meat, and poultry.

Here is a list of foods you must eat if you want to follow a yogic diet:

1. All types of fruits
2. All vegetables (except garlic and onions)
3. Whole grains
4. Sweet spices (such as cinnamon, cardamom, fennel, cumin, mint, etc.)
5. Beans, tofu, adzuki
6. Plant-based oils
7. Nuts and seeds (neither salted nor overly roasted)
8. Herbal tea or lemon juice

Last, but not the least, it is very important that the food you eat must be prepared with love and gratitude.
