Nothing is more awkward than having our body let us down at the worst moment possible. For instance, sneezing when someone is delivering an emotional speech. Or, even worse, having a fit of uncontrollable laughter during a religious ceremony! Well, today we would like to share a few tricks that will help you have total control over your body and perhaps help you avoid awkward situations like the ones mentioned above. Read on to discover how!

1. Holding In A Sneeze

Having an unexpected sneeze at the wrong moment is simply horrible. But what is worse is when your body attacks you with a wave of uncontrollable sneezes! A simple way to hold in a sneeze without making any noise is to pinch the upper part of your nose. Gently rubbing or pulling on the upper portion of your nasal septum can help hold off the need to sneeze.

Banish headaches in a jiffy with this easy-breezy trick! Place your hand under a running tap of cold water. Leave it under the tap for a few minutes till you can feel the temperature of your hand drop. Once you feel your hand is cold enough, use a dry towel to rapidly dry off your hand. Now, try and create as much friction between the towel and your hand until you can feel a slight burning sensation in your hand.

This is known as cold therapy. It works under the theory that stress, resulting from the rapid fluctuations in your temperature, sparks an increase in the circulation of blood throughout your body. However, avoid this method if you have a heart condition.

3. Getting Rid Of Sleepiness

Sometimes we feel too nervous to fall asleep on the night before an important presentation or interview. And nothing is worse than feeling sleepy the next day during the important event! However, a great way to reduce the feeling of sleepiness is to try and hold your breath for as long as possible, and then breathe out slowly. This helps to rapidly increase your heart rate, which makes you feel a lot more ‘awake.’

If you ever feel nauseous, you can make use of acupressure to help you get rid of your nausea. Hold out your left palm and locate the point that is an inch below your palm, on your wrist. Make use of one or two of your fingers to apply pressure on this region to rapidly increase the circulation of blood in your body.

5. Holding In Your Laughter

Although laughter is a great way to feel happy and keep your spirits high, we need to hold it in during serious occasions such as a meeting or during a lecture. An easy way to do so as quickly as possible is to pinch yourself or bite your tongue. The pain helps distract your mind from whatever it is that is making you giggle.

There are quite a few ways to get rid of hiccups, such as getting frightened by something or drinking water upside down. However, sometimes we may not be in a position to try these methods. Therefore, it is important to utilize the method of holding your breath until the hiccups fade away as this can be done without attracting any sort of unwanted attention.

7. Easing Heartburn

People who tend to sleep on their right side usually experience heartburn. Hence, you should try and sleep on your left side if you want to get rid of heartburn. Sleeping on your left side allows the gastric juices of your stomach to remain in the deeper part of your stomach, thus preventing heartburn.

People who sleep on their back tend to snore more frequently. Adjusting your sleeping position, such as sleeping on your side can help you get rid of snoring. This is because your tongue tends to move to the back of your throat when you sleep on your back, thereby causing you to snore.

9. Getting Rid Of Acne

There are several creams and ointments developed to help you get rid of acne. However, there is a simple way to avoid the onset of acne in the first place! After you take a shower, rinse your face with cold water or rub a few ice cubes on the regions of your face that are most prone to acne. The cold temperature of the water will help close the pores in your skin that would otherwise have remained open after a shower, thereby inviting dirt and bacteria to get into your skin.

An easy way to avoid vertigo in the first place is to place cotton balls inside your ears. However, if you still feel like you are experiencing vertigo, you can place your index finger inside your ear and perform the following steps: First pull it upward, then forward, and then finally backwards. Performing these steps will help regulate the intracranial pressure that helps ease the feeling of vertigo.
