What Do Your Doodles Say About You?

Written by Tanya Arora •

If you take a walk down memory lane and flip through old school and college notebooks, you’ll find tons of doodles scribbled on dog-eared corners and smack dab in the middle of your hurriedly scribbled notes. And as you’ll run your fingers through them, evoking a thousand memories, you’ll chuckle lightly to yourself, being the only one who knows that little inside story behind those stick figures and stars.

But fond memories are not the only thing your carefully crafted doodles are a symbol of. They are the creations of your subconscious mind. Things that subtly scream out the truth about yourself that you do not know yet – but what you really should know. So, if you want to know this truth – the secret your doodles reveal about you – just keep reading!

1. Stick Figures

Drawing stick figures or doodling little people all the time shows that you feel a sense of insecurity and helplessness. It can even indicate the desire to shun a few of your responsibilities and signal an emotionally unstable state where you feel that you need to isolate yourself from those around you.

2. Eyes

If you doodle eyes, you’re essentially representing your inner self. Drawing very large eyes shows that you are extroverted and have a rather outgoing personality, while small eyes with a fixed stare indicate that you feel as though you’re being watched. Completely closed eyes, on the other hand, show that you refuse to analyze your inner self.

3. Your Initials Or Signature

Arrogance and an egocentric nature are two things that are symbolized when you doodle signatures or initials. Doodling any one of the two absentmindedly as you take down notes or talk to someone reveals a self-centered nature.

4. Geometric Shapes

These could be diamonds, squares, triangles or any other similar shapes. Doodling them often means your goals are well-defined and you do not like to voice your opinions. Stubbornness and determination run deep within you, and you’re also very cautious and careful.

5. Animals

Since there are several different kinds of animals, the animal you doodle can say different things. For example, if you doodle a wolf or a tiger, you have repressed anger within you. Drawing a fox indicates you’re up to no good, while scribbling a squirrel shows you need protection and care. Lions reveal an attitude of superiority. Besides, doodling the same animal time and again may mean that you’re trying to imitate the traits of that creature.

6. Arrows

Arrows symbolize that you want to head into a certain direction in life. If it’s an upward arrow, it means you’re very people-oriented. If it’s a downward one, it shows that you focus on yourself. An arrow that points towards the left means you’re still brooding over the past, while one to the right means your eyes are set to the future.

7. Stars

Stars signify that you have the wish to be the center of everybody’s attention – “all eyes on you, heads turn as you turn” kind of attention. However, if your stars have many points or are drawn away from the center, it could mean you’re depressed.

8. Clouds, Sun, And Flowers

Drawing a cheerful scene of sun, clouds, and flowers shows that you’re pretty content with your life and what’s going on in it (although you can’t help but fantasize of the good the future has in store). You have a positive attitude overall and are generally in very good spirits.

9. Crosses

Drawing crosses repeatedly is not a very good sign. These Xs indicate that you’ve done something you feel extremely guilty about and can’t help but constantly blame yourself for all the mistakes you’ve made.

10. Boxes And Little Houses

Symmetrical doodles such as boxes and tiny houses display your love for symmetry and order in your own life. They bring out the calculative side of you and show that you plan everything very carefully. You know what you want from life, have clear-cut goals, and will always stay true to your beliefs – come what may!

11. Chessboard

Drawing a chessboard could indicate that you’re trapped in an unpleasant situation and want to get out of it. You have some hidden issues to deal with, but you don’t know how to solve them. It could also mean that you’re lost and are trying to find your way.

12. Honeycomb

With honeycomb patterns, your priority to maintain peace in your life becomes very clear. It can also mean that you have the desire to get married and have a family of your own.

13. Spirals

You’re kind of aloof and not bothered by other people’s issues. You delve in your own problems and constantly sort them in your head, which is a trait of a genius.

14. Rings And Circles

You crave unity in your life as you feel kind of left out. Doodling circles often could mean that you need a little bit of attention, maybe a friend. It could also mean that you have an introverted nature and don’t allow anyone in your circle.

Know yourself a little better already, huh? If you never draw doodles, try doing one and see what you end up with. It might tell you a lot more than you think!
