Why You Should Drink A Glass Of Water Before Your Morning Tea Or Coffee

What is the first thing you do as soon as you get up? Well, if you are like most of the population, you probably drink a cup of your beloved tea or coffee, isn’t it?

Research shows that drinking tea or coffee on an empty stomach can have a negative impact on our body, especially if it’s the first thing that you sip on in the morning.

If the thought of giving up your morning tea or coffee is horrifying, there is one thing that you can do to minimize its harmful effects – drink a glass of water before drinking the coffee.

Here’s how drinking water the first thing in the morning helps.

1. It Prevents Your Body From Getting Dehydrated.

By the time we get up, our body is dehydrated as we don’t eat or drink anything for 6-7 hours. Now, tea and coffee both contain caffeine that are diuretic in nature. A diuretic substance increases the flow of urine in order to get rid of excess water in the body. Drinking coffee or tea on an empty stomach contributes in dehydrating the body even more. Thus, drinking water after waking up is considered as a good practice as it hydrates the body and also minimizes the damage caused due to caffeine.

2. It Prevents Acidity.

Anything that has a pH below 7 is considered to be acidic in nature, and the pH value of tea is 6 whereas the pH value of coffee is 5. Thus, both are acidic in nature, and when you drink either one of them on an empty stomach, the stomach produces a large amount of HCl, i.e. hydrochloric acid. If the hydrochloric acid is produced in more than the required quantity in the body, the extra gastric juices move to the lower part of the esophagus from the stomach, affecting its inner lining. This condition causes acidity. This is why you must drink water before sipping coffee or tea and prevent acidity.

3. It Cures Digestion-Related Problems.

Hydrochloric acid plays a main role in supporting the digestive system of our body and is usually released when you eat or drink something. Now, when you drink coffee or tea frequently, you are boosting the production of hydrochloric acid and after some time, the body’s goes into an overdrive. This gives rise to several problems such as bloating, bowel inflammation, and colon cancer. Thus, you must drink a glass of water before drinking coffee or tea.
