What Is Cervical Spondylosis?

Cervical spondylosis is a form of arthritis that affects the vertebrae of the neck. Usually, there is wear and tear of the bones and cartilages in the neck. Earlier, only the elderly were the victims, but these days the condition is being seen in kids as young as 14.

We usually hang our head down while working on laptops and mobiles, don’t we? This puts a lot of strain on the vertebrae of the neck and brings on this condition, though there may not be noticeable symptoms at an early stage for most.

Cervical spondylosis symptoms always become worse over time but, fortunately, these can be controlled and managed for a healthy life. Just follow these suggestions and get back to your best health!

Home Remedies For Cervical Spondylosis:

1. Regular Exercise Is Key:

Cervical spondylosis usually happens due to a lack of regular exercise (1). So get up and shake and relax those stiff muscles of your neck and shoulder. You can try out head rotations, shoulder shrugs and touching your ear to your shoulder. The key is doing these regularly. Devote at least 10 minutes each day to exercise. Walking, swimming and cycling are also hugely recommended. However, if you suffer from severe pain while doing any neck exercise, we suggest that you stop and talk to your doctor.

2. Hot And Cold Compresses:

Another way to cut down on cervical spondylosis is to use hot and cold compresses alternatively on your neck and shoulder (2). What hot compresses do is improve blood circulation and relax stretched muscles. Cold compresses help by reducing inflammation and swelling. However, avoid hot compresses if the affected area is red and irritated and cold compresses if you have bad circulation.

3. Epsom Salt Baths:

This is an invaluable way to treat cervical spondylosis pain and stiffness. Epsom salt baths work wonders in healing as the magnesium present in the salt balances the pH levels in the body. This in turn reduces stiffness, swelling and inflammation (3). It also brings down pain in your neck and shoulders. All you have to do is take a couple of tablespoons of Epsom salt and add water for making a paste and apply to your neck and shoulder. Keep it on for 15 minutes, wash and feel the difference. Also, refrain from soaking if you have kidney and cardiac problems, or if you suffer from diabetes.
