What Is Cervical Spondylosis?

1. Regular Exercise Is Key:

You can try out head rotations, shoulder shrugs and touching your ear to your shoulder. The key is doing these regularly. Devote at least 10 minutes each day to exercise. What hot compresses do is improve blood circulation and relax stretched muscles. Cold compresses help by reducing inflammation and swelling. However, avoid hot compresses if the affected area is red and irritated and cold compresses if you have bad circulation.
3. Epsom Salt Baths:
This is an invaluable way to treat cervical spondylosis pain and stiffness. Epsom salt baths work wonders in healing as the magnesium present in the salt balances the pH levels in the body. This in turn reduces stiffness, swelling and inflammation (3). It also brings down pain in your neck and shoulders. All you have to do is take a couple of tablespoons of Epsom salt and add water for making a paste and apply to your neck and shoulder. Keep it on for 15 minutes, wash and feel the difference. Also, refrain from soaking if you have kidney and cardiac problems, or if you suffer from diabetes.

Garlic is a super food for you, says Ayurveda, especially if you have pains and aches due to joint problems and arthritis. That’s because it is a good anti-inflammatory agent and an analgesic (4). So, eat two raw garlic cloves on an empty stomach each morning with water. You can also use oil cooked with garlic cloves over the affected area, followed by a hot bath for relief.
Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties that make it an amazing remedy for cervical spondylosis.Turmeric also increases the blood circulation (5). This helps improve movement by reducing muscle stiffness, commonly associated with CS. You can add turmeric to milk and drink or consume turmeric tablets. Both worked fine.
6. Sesame Seeds:
This is one of the best herbal remedies for cervical spondylosis that is really effective in treating stiffness and pain caused due to cervical spondylosis. Sesame seeds are storehouses of calcium, manganese, magnesium, zinc, and copper. They also contain vitamins K and D (6), which are good for your bones and joints. You can massage with warm Sesame oil and follow it up with a warm compress for reducing neck pain.
Ginger is a great home remedy for cervical spondylosis. It is rich in anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps improve blood circulation, thereby helping to bring down pain and inflammation associated with the condition.
You can incorporate ginger into your diet as ginger tea, and also use ginger oil to massage your neck area.
8. Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar (7) has rich anti-inflammatory properties that make it excellent for managing cervical spondylosis. It also reduces and soothes neck inflammation and pain.
The way to use apple cider vinegar is by soaking a paper towel in it and placing it over the neck for a couple of hours, twice daily. You can also soak in bath water to which 2 cups of apple cider vinegar have been added.
9. Cayenne Pepper:
Cayenne pepper helps in relieving symptoms of cervical spondylosis because it contains a substance called capsaicin (8). Capsaicin has potent pain reducing and anti-inflammatory properties. These are heaven-sent for reducing pain and inflammation in tissues. Add a little cayenne pepper powder to olive oil and massage into skin. Cover the area with a bandage. Leave on for a few hours (or even overnight) for relief.
10. Indian Lilac Or Neem:
Neem is a potent anti-inflammatory agent and a natural analgesic that heals neck pain and swelling. Apply thick, hot paste of neem on your neck and feel the pain disappear.
Do not sit in the same position for a long time – move about and take a break. If your boss minds, change your job. Do not lift heavy objects and keep away from ‘vata’ inducing foods like rice, refined flour and kidney beans. Keep your posture correct to avoid further damage to your vertebrae.
