Hydrates the skin
Just a small amount is required
Does not dry or clog skin
Even out skin tone
Last the whole day
Has sun protection
Doesn't smell great
This Bobbi Brown Extra SPF 25 Tinted Moisturizing Balm is the most expensive moisturizer/foundation I ever purchased. To buy this moisturizer balm, I had to sacrifice several other products I normally use. For example, I had to say goodbye to my setting spray and primer. I was praying this moisturizing balm will be worth it.
The thick and creamy texture looks very alluring, and it suits my dry skin very well. I use this moisturizer daily, and since it is in a glass jar, I take extra precautions. I dip the corner of a fresh makeup sponge into the jar and scoop out a pea-sized amount. Then I wipe it on the back of my hand. I start dabbing the moisturizer all over my face and neck, taking the moisturizer from the back of my hand and start blending. It melts into my fine wrinkles but does not dry or clog my pores or flake like the other products I have used so far did.
I am in love with it because it gives me a nice even tone finish. The shade Alabaster thankfully suits me very well. The only problem I have with it is the smell comes out a bit too strong while applying it. That is resolved after a few minutes of application. It would have been perfect if it was fragrance-free.
The cost is a little high, but since just a few amounts are required to cover my whole face, I'm sure it will last for a long time. Did I say that I am in love with it? Yes, and I say it again. It is such a relief that my sacrifices were worth it. I am in love with it!
Easy to blend
Does not control oil
Melts in the sun
The name of this product is so fancy - NYX Professional Makeup Stay Matte But Not Flat Liquid Foundation! I was instantly attracted to the name. And with the description it has, it sounded like the perfect match for my oily, acne-prone skin. I got the shade Warm Beige to match my skin tone. It matched pretty well.
This product comes in a very convenient tube packaging. The quantity is also pretty good for the price it comes at. The consistency of the product is just about perfect; it’s not very watery or very thick. To apply the product, I take some of it on the back of the hand, warm it up a bit and dot it all over my face and neck. To blend it, I use my flat foundation brush, and a stippling brush to finish off. I top it off with my concealer and loose powder.
Everything stays good for about two hours, and then my face decides to produce oil, and my foundation goes with the flow (pun intended). It feels like the foundation starts melting when I’m out in the sun. The staying power of this foundation is barely 3 hours, post which this matte foundation turns dewy, and my face appears more oily than what it looks like otherwise.
On days when I’m only sitting under the AC, the foundation works better. It stays longer and does not melt. But, as the description says, it can’t be worn everywhere. This is like any other foundation, no reason why it’s a must buy. Any other foundation, probably at lesser cost will perform similar or even better than this one in some cases.
Easy to blend
Easy to apply
Perfect match for skin tone
I have always believed that only products that are expensive actually work. But, I was so wrong! My mom picked this product up for herself, while she went to another city and I thought she had wasted her money on it. I know a few good concealers and always recommend them to others. But, this L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD concealer changed my outlook.
After seeing my mom use this product, I wanted to give it a try too. And luckily, mom’s and my skin tone is exactly the same. She had the shade Natural with her, and I tried it on.
First off, it comes in a tube with a brush applicator. The application is so easy and precise, and the brush dispenses just the right amount of the product. I used it on my dark circles which are not very dark, around the lips, and on the few dark spots I have. I used my fingers to blend it in, and my skin absorbed this product like magic. It blended so perfectly that it felt like my skin has been this great since forever.
I used it over my foundation and then set it off with compact powder. It didn’t get patchy or crease at all and stayed on like this the entire day.
One thing I did not like was, although it is not expensive, the quantity is still very less. All and all, it’s a great product for everyday use and carrying it on the go.
Easy to apply
Does not irritate the eyes
Primer not needed
Needs waterproof makeup remover
Having an eyeshadow in the form of a pencil calls for a celebration in the world of makeup! I was on my toes when I first got to know about Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick. The price made me wince a little bit, but I just could not resist it!
The Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick comes in a simple twist-up and down pen packaging. The cap of the pen shuts with a prominent click, making it travel-friendly. Not only that, but for the first time, I carry an eyeshadow in my handbag wherever I go for touch-ups. Amazing, isn't it?
The texture is creamy, and it glides on my eyes easily! The pigmentation is right on point, and I don’t require to layer my eyes with more than two strokes. My skin is very sensitive – even then the product suits me well.
I got the shade Violet plum about four weeks ago, and since then, I have been using it nearly every day! It is a thick liner, but it somehow looks just right on me. I line my upper lash line with this cream shadow stick, put on mascara, and I am set to go about with my day. It is so easy to use this Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick!
I own another color of this – Bark. I wear it occasionally, but I love it whenever I do. Bark is a rich brown shade that really brings out my eyes. It is very flattering and also enhances my brown eyes. This is one makeup product I might just use to the bottom of the tube. The quantity provided is too less. I wish it were more. Otherwise, Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick is a must-have eyeshadow!
Wide range of shades
Up to 4-5 hours holding power
Settles in fine lines
Can dry out your lips
I think Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick is one lipstick that has the widest range of colors! You name it - browns to corals to mauves, reds, and pinks - it is all available in all hues! I didn’t try all the shades, but the few I have tried are All Fired Up, Addictive Magenta, Pure Innocence and Thrilling Pink.
They come in a simple, non-complicated silver case. It is easy to use because it is highly pigmented. Just one swipe is enough to keep me going for 4-5 hours. I thought the performance would not be up to the mark because it comes at a very affordable price. But I underestimated it. This lipstick’s ability to control bleeding is amazing and has moderate transfer control as well.
I tried layering Thrilling Pink to get a more intense pink, but that didn’t work well. So, for this lipstick, layering should be avoided. Doing so makes the lips dry, and it accentuates the fine lines.
Other than that, I find this Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick lovely! Anyone will be able to flaunt it. And since it has a variety of shades available, you will easily find one or maybe even more to suit your skin tone.
For me, I will happily continue using it. But after I ran out of it, I will like to explore other brands.
Does not cause breakouts
Easy to apply
Perfect for oily skin
Finding the right shade could be a challenge
I never used concealers before as I was under the impression that they are just another layer of makeup. But I was so wrong. Every time I invest in a product, I do a little research. And because I was buying a concealer for the first time, I wanted to be sure about my choice. I picked the Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer, and it did not disappoint me at all.
I have oily skin, and almost everything I put on my face leads to breakouts. I was skeptical about this concealer too, but nothing happened. The product’s texture is so smooth and lightweight that once you apply it, it feels like nothing. It is super easy to blend, does not clog my pores, and does not feel heavy on the skin.
The plastic tube with doe foot applicator is so perfect, and it gives me complete control over how much product I use and where. The applicator also helps in the precise application on areas like under eye dark circles, side of the lips, and for spot correction.
The concealer stays put throughout the day, does not get patchy even when I’m sweating. A little setting with the powder, and you’re good to go. The pigmentation is great; I don’t have to use a lot of product to hide the dark spots.
I’m definitely going to buy another tube once this one gets over. It is affordable, travel-friendly, and the best part, my skin does not react to it — thumbs up to this product.
Makes the skin soft and supple
Provides deep nourishment
Improves skin health
Not for all skin types
I picked up Aroma Magic Vitamin E Night Cream from a drugstore three weeks back.
The product comes in a big rounded plastic tub. It is filled with a generous quantity, but then the size is not travel-friendly. The tub is huge for a night cream. The cream is light blush in color, and the consistency is thick and creamy and has a floral fragrance which isn’t overbearing.
Since my skin is dry and mostly dehydrated, the consistency felt great. It leaves some kind of oil layer, most probably from the essential oils. But that oiliness gets sucked in after few minutes, and the skin is smooth and soft.
I started using this cream the day I bought it, which is exactly three weeks back from now. And I will say that this night cream is perfect for dry skin. It provides deep nourishment, makes the skin baby soft in the morning, and promotes good skin health.
I haven’t seen any changes in my blemishes, but I think it hasn’t been that long since I started using it, so I can’t really comment on it. But then, I am more than satisfied with the way my skin feels – so soft and supple.
I will recommend this cream to all the dry skin beauties out there. Oily skin types, take my advice and stay away from it, even during winters.
Wide range of shades
Hard to remove
As a kid, I was always intrigued by lipsticks and couldn’t wait to be able to try it on myself without having to deal with my mom. Now that I can, I go all out. I like to experiment with different shades on myself. So, recently, I got three shades from NYX Professional Makeup Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick- French Maid, Silk Indulgent and Baby Doll.
This lipstick from NYX is creamy, non-drying and lightweight with a matte finish. It is available in so many shades that are both perfect for daytime hangout and evening fun.
The tube it comes in is very functional and travel-friendly. The sponge on the wand is soft and spreads the lipstick very well. A 100 points for the packaging!
The three tubes I got for myself are just perfect! They has replaced almost all the lipsticks I have in my vanity. I am obsessed with all three. They don't feel sticky when they dry off. And the best thing about them is, they do not transfer easily. Even after a meal, they look like I just applied them.
The only hard part is taking it off. I have to use a waterproof makeup remover or scrub to get it off my lips. Some may find this very useful but someone like me won’t prefer it. It’s just extra work.
But I can’t deny how great this lipstick is. Better than most of the high end ones I have used. I have a feeling that I am going to buy it again and again and most probably try every color.
Does not cause breakouts
Contains SPF 30
Takes time for the fragrance to fade away
I got this sunscreen cream a month back. I have dry really skin which gets flaky during winters. This sunscreen seemed perfect for me because it has a very thick creamy texture that moisturizes so well. I don’t require using another moisturizer on top. The cream comes in a tube packaging. The open-flip cap is also sturdy and shuts securely.
I use it 10-15 minutes before leaving the house daily. I have been doing that for about a month, and till date, it hasn’t given me any skin irritations and breakouts. The fragrance, though, is so strong – very herbal and thick. It takes a little time to fade away even after application, which is a huge minus point for me.
The way this moisturizer glides on my skin is beautiful! It makes my skin feel hydrated for the longest time, gives my dry skin a hint of sheen, and smoothens the texture of my skin. I am ready to buy this Patanjali Sunscreen Cream again because of these traits.
Before purchasing, you should know that the texture is thick and it has a strong smell. If you can work with these aspects, Patanjali Sunscreen Cream SPF 30 is a good sun protecting
A little goes a long way
Foundation cum highlighter
Gives shimmery glow
Stays up to 8 hours
Not for oily skin
No shades for darker tones
Sounds lovely when you hear a two-in-one product isn’t it? Immediately, I think about how efficient that will be because I tend to spend a lot on cosmetics. So when I got to know about this Lakme Absolute Illuminating Foundation, which is both a foundation and a highlighter, I was all up for it.
I chose Beige Glimmer because that suited me best. Hold up! A disclaimer: this foundation has just four shades available. So, it will be a challenge choosing the right shade for darker skin. It is formulated keeping in mind the Indian skin tone. But I guess they forgot about darker skin tones. Thankfully, my skin tone is medium fair with neutral undertones, so the beige glimmer suits me well.
The container it comes in is very functional. I like the pump dispenser, it makes the foundation more hygienic, and it is lightweight and travel-friendly. I just need two pumps of the foundation to cover my face and neck. And I blend it with a damp sponge.
My skin is super dry, so I apply a primer first. It just makes the blending very easy. Lakme Absolute Illuminating Foundation has medium coverage, so some might not like it. Especially those who have marks and blemishes. And to be honest, I don’t think oily skin will like it either. The illuminating effect it gives is quite sparkly. It will be like applying highlighter all over the face. But maybe oily skin beauties can use it just as a highlighter. That will work well too.
Anyway, I use this foundation not on a daily basis but mostly on occasions. Like a night out, weddings and dinner dates. I can’t wear it to the office on a daily basis because it makes me look like I have overdone my makeup.
Overall, it is not the best but not the worst either. It is good for special occasions, and the foundation’s staying power is also decent.
True to its claims
Moisturizes skin well
The nozzle is a hassle.
I got this MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion thinking I made a smart choice. Because I was told that this lotion not only works as a good moisturizer but also as a good makeup base. Having dry skin, this lotion checked off all the requirements. It was like a 2-in-1 benefit for me.
I have been using it for over three weeks now, so let me share my experience of using it.
MAC Mineralize Timecheck Lotion is the best primer! It shrinks my pores and blurs my fine lines while moisturizing and plumping up my skin.
I use this gel-like lotion every day just like a moisturizer and also under my makeup. If only it had SPF I would have worn it without any sunscreen. And because I use it very often, it is running out so fast. I wish it was a bit cheaper.
I love everything about it but honestly, I am not very happy with the nozzle. Sometimes, it takes a little bit of more effort to get the lotion out. And the tip of the nozzle is usually clogged with dried lotion. If it came with an outer cover, it might be more convenient I guess.
Anyway, despite that, this lotion does a very good job. With the continuous use, my complexion has also lightened, and it looks radiant.
Can be used as a primer
May dry your skin out
Does not provide enough moisturization
I got this moisturizer from Clinique because of my face wash. I am using Clinique Liquid Facial Soap for years now, and it has done amazing things to my combination acne prone skin.
This moisturizer comes in a fresh, bright blue plastic tub with a screw lid. I personally don’t really prefer tub packaging because once you unscrew the lid, the cream gets exposed to the air and it is unhygienic. To prevent this, I make sure that my hands are clean before applying it. It is travel-friendly, considering its size. The texture is thick and creamy, which easily blends on the skin.
I started using this moisturizer a month back with a lot of excitement, but I think I am not that excited about it anymore. I say this because maybe my expectations were really high. I like the mattifying action and the primer aspect of this moisturizer. It is the only aspect that seems to work well. The moisturizing part, however, leaves me unsatisfied. Clinique Pep-Start HydroBlur Moisturizer dried me out, so I have to apply another moisturizer on top of it to really feel the hydration. This is bizarre because that's the last thing I want to do. Maybe I'm not using it right, or there is something in the formulation that my skin is not fond of.
It is really more of a primer than anything else. I won’t say I hate it, nor will I say I love it. It falls in the middle. But considering its price, I will not purchase it again.
Keeps the skin soft and moisturized
I have used so many Patanjali products, and Patanjali Moisturizer Cream is one of them. The first look of this cream is like those of The Body Shop moisturizers but the smaller versions. It is quite impressive. The baby pink color is where my liking starts. I really like the packaging, and the size makes it travel-friendly.
I have dry skin and with winter here, I needed a high hydration moisturizer, but something that will not be hard on my skin since during winter, my skin becomes very sensitive. An Ayurvedic product was the first option, and I’m so glad I got this one.
The cream has a light texture and is very well formulated. The smell is a bit too sweet for my liking but after a while, it subsides. I use it as my daily moisturizer. After application, my skin feels highly moisturized without any greasiness. Over these past few months, my skin has improved and become soft, radiant and healthy. The thing that I like about this cream is, the effect is long-term unlike many other products that use chemicals for quick results.
Another thing about this cream that I like is, it is chemical-free. So, no stressing on getting my skin affected negatively. And since my skin is sensitive, Patanjali Moisturizer Cream is perfect.
Although I like this cream so much, I won’t use it during summer season because it does not have any sun protection. But for winter, I think everyone should give it a try. And did I mention how affordable it is? Yes, it comes for a very reasonable price. I feel the cream is worth more than its price. Which is perfect!
Gives a dewy effect
Does not leave a white cast
Controls oil secretion in the T-zone
Does not whiten and brighten the skin
Might be very matte for dry skin
Lotus Herbals Whiteglow Skin Whitening & Brightening Gel Crème SPF 25 PA+++ comes in a glass jar, which gives a high-end product feel. The texture is between a gel and a cream, which is perfect for both dry and oily skin types. The cream gets easily absorbed within 5-6 seconds.
When I purchased this day cream, I was very curious to see how it will work. The whole package itself looked very promising. To be honest, I was expecting the cream to look more like a gel because it states to be gel-cream based. But then, after applying, I didn’t bother as it is very light in texture and gets absorbed quickly.
In the morning, I apply the cream all over my face after I wash it. I simply take a little more than a pea-sized amount and spread it all over. I wait it out for like half a minute and then start wearing my kajal and shaping my eyebrows. After that, I’m pretty much done.
I have combination skin, so my T-zone becomes very oily by the end of the day. I started using Lotus Herbals Whiteglow Skin Whitening & Brightening Gel Crème SPF 25 PA+++ two and a half months back. I like how the cream gives me a dewy effect without leaving any white cast. I have also noticed that my T-zone area is much less oily now.
The drawback of this cream is that though it has been a while since I started using this cream, I have not seen any difference in my skin tone. It’s actually quite disappointing because the cream claims to do so in 7 days.
I will say that despite the “whitening and brightening” claim not coming true, it is a good moisturizing cream for combination skin.
Reduce hair fall
Because of hard water in the area I stay, I started getting very bad hair fall. I never experience hair fall before, so I didn’t know exactly what I should do. When I asked my girlfriend, she recommended me this shampoo.
So, it has been more than a month, and I have noticed my hair fall reducing. My hair has also become bouncy and shines more than it used to. But since the smell is too strong for my liking, I use a hair oil before I leave home. So, in that way, the bounce is pretty useless for me.
My first experience with Patanjali has been 50/50.
Imparts shine to hair
Softens the hair
Untangles the hair
Ever since I’ve started using Livon Hair Serum, my curly hair feels so much better and softer. With my very first bottle, I fell in love with it, and now I purchase it every time I run out of it.
Earlier, getting my hair combed was a huge task and I try to avoid it. So, some days, it ends up looking like a bird’s nest. But after the entry of this serum, I no longer dread it. This serum makes my shower-to-combing process very easy and I have also noticed the hair strands on my comb decrease.
Also, since I have curly hair, my hair looks messy and frizzy all the time even if I just had a hair bath. Some days, I will try to tame it with oil, but my hair always ends up feeling oily and greasy.
But this problem subsided once I started using this serum. It does the job of an oil but without making my hair feel oily.
My hair feels soft and light, and it always smells nice. I haven’t touched any hair oil after this serum. And I don’t think I’m ever touching it either.
Mild on the skin
My friends know me to be a dedicated home remedy junkie. My trust is on only natural ingredients and herbal products. So usually, I make my own face packs, hair creams, etc. and for almost every remedy for my skin, I use honey. To be honest, it does get a little messy. But one sunny day, my sister got me this face wash from Patanjali. The first thing I did was read the ingredients. I was convinced. When I squeezed it on my palm, it looked exactly like honey. I was more than pleased. Then, as I started using it, I fell more in love with it. And now, I am on my 3rd tube. It works from the roots of all problems and since it is Ayurvedic, I can easily trust it.
Lightens skin tone
Easy to mix and apply
Contains too many chemicals
One typical evening, some friends of mine happened to talk about Fem fairness bleach. While they were discussing, I thought of using Fem Fairness Naturals Saffron Creme Bleach as an alternative for shaving my arms.
A week later, I applied it for the very first time. I thought the whole process would be messy, but everything went on as smooth as a knife on butter. The product kit contains six items – Saffron cream, two powder activators, pre-bleach cream, a two-sided spoon that has one big and small scoop, and one spatula to spread the formula conveniently.
The smell didn’t disturb me much as it is mild. Applying it was also easy. First, I took two big spoons of the cream in a container and two small spoons of the powder activator. I mixed them both with a plastic spoon. With the spatula, I applied it to my left hand while setting an alarm of 10 minutes on my phone. I didn’t want to go overboard with the bleach, so I played safe.
After 10 minutess, I washed it off with cold water. The formula went off with ease, which is what I liked the most about it. While it sat on my skin, I felt a slight burning sensation, but on the packaging, it mentioned that it is normal, so I ignored it. After I washed it off, I applied the pre-bleach cream. It made my skin settle.
The final result had me feeling accomplished. It was a brilliant idea indeed! The skin tone of my hands lightened (of course), but the hair on it is as light as my skin tone too. So now when I look at my hands, it’s as though I've had them waxed. Now I can finally say goodbye to painful wax and cactus shave.
The thing I didn’t like was the presence of so many chemicals which I have no idea about. So, I’m very sure that this formula is going nowhere close to my face. I also feel like it is best not to use it often. Just once or twice a month should do the trick because it is, after all, a very strong cream and has the potential to harm your skin.
My first experience was a success, and I am going to continue using it on my hands and also maybe my legs.
Control the oil secretion on your face
Can cause breakouts
Does not blend easily
A friend of mine speaks highly of Ayurvedic remedies, so I finally thought of trying one myself. I bought Roop Mantra Ayurvedic Medicinal Face Cream about four weeks back, and I remember being very excited about it for its claims, especially regarding acne and pimples.
This face cream comes in a tube with a screw cap. The tube makes it hygienic to use. It closes securely, so the cream is travel-friendly.
The texture is very thick, and it needs some blending for absorption. The color is light peach, and the smell is very strong - very much like medicine.
To be honest, I don’t like this product. I thought I would. I used it as a night cream because it feels like a dry ointment. I’m glad for the ‘dry’ but ‘ointment’? I’m not sure and mostly because it has no SPF. So, to begin with, I had to massage my entire face for it to blend. And after application, the skin gets a matte finish look (I am a fan of just that bit). And after I made it my regular night regime, for the first week, I could notice my oil getting controlled and my acne drying out. Seeing those results, I got my hopes up and was anticipating more positive results. But that was about it. I started getting pimples the second week. I thought it’s just my hormones, but after 4-5 days I was sure this formula isn’t working. On the fourth week, I stopped using it because my skin condition was only getting worse.
Even after witnessing my tragedy, my friend still has her beliefs on Ayurvedic formulas. I am willing to try another Ayurvedic product and see how it works on me. Fingers crossed!
Keeps hair in place
I love trying new updos, but my hair becomes so frizzy and never stays in place. This product is a godsend! It is incredible. It reduces frizziness and prevents stray hair. It also keeps my hairstyles in place. I have received so many compliments. Absolutely love it. I find the smell is a bit strong, but apart from this, there are only good things to speak about with this oil. It helps detangle knots without damaging the hair. The best part is that it also acts as a heat protectant. I mean talk about a miracle-worker!
