9 Things Every Girl Needs In Her Handbag

Written by Bhavna Panda  •

For us girls, our handbags are nothing short of sacred. It holds a treasure trove of essentials, non-essentials, and miscellaneous knick-knacks that we don’t even remember putting in there. While we can carry our whole world in our bags, there are some things that we absolutely need, and cannot beg, borrow, or steal in a pinch. So make sure that your handbag always has…

1. Pepper Spray

Safety always comes first. While it might not be the most pleasant thing to consider all the ways your safety might get compromised, it is important that you do. And keep a pepper spray handy to protect yourself.

2. Hand Sanitizer

We all know that germs are everywhere, and some of them might get into our systems and make us sick. We travel using public transportation, use ATMs, and touch a thousand different things that are never cleaned. So it’s best that you always have a sanitizer handy to kill the germs you come in contact with and stop them from spreading.

3. Tampons/Pads

Your periods might be regular like the clock, but it is better to stay prepared than go scrounging for a tampon in case Aunt Flow decided not to check the time. And even if you don’t use it, you may end up helping another woman out in her time of need.

4. Lip Balm

Chapped lips are painful and not really great to look at. And no matter what the season, our lips always crave moisture. So keep a lip balm handy with you. Make it the stick kind, so that you don’t need to dip your fingers into a container while you are out.

5. Post-Its / Small Notebook And Pen

Jotting things down has not been in vogue for a really long time. With our smartphones taking care of our contacts and messages, a notepad and pen might seem archaic. But there are still things that need to be done the old-fashioned way. Imagine needing to sign something, a cheque or a card, and not having a pen within reach. Or wanting to jot down info while you’re on a call. Keeping a pen and some paper handy can save you from a lot of scurrying around.

6. Breath-Mints

Our mouths have bacteria. And as we keep munching on things throughout the day, these bacteria break down the food and produce a decidedly unpleasant odor. Bad breath is a turn-off, and you should always be prepared to combat it. Keep breath-mints/chewing gum/mouth freshener in your handbag at all times.

7. Band-aids

The importance of a band-aid is truly understood when you’re breaking into a new pair of shoes and end up with shoe bites. They are also pretty helpful for paper-cuts and other tiny bruises that happen unexpectedly.

9. Deodorant/ Perfume

Everyone loves the summer, but nobody is all that fond of the accompanying body odor. If you’re having a long day, the best way to freshen up and smell pleasant is by keeping a small bottle of deodorant or perfume handy. All you need to do is spray some on, and wave goodbye to self-consciousness.

Along with your keys and wallets, you should make it a point to keep these items in your handbag. In case of an emergency, they can truly save your life.
