Let’s be real, everyone feels the need for companionship and wants to be in a happy and successful relationship. And while many might find that person early on in life, many others might not. I understand exactly how you feel and there are many people out there who feel the same. However, there are a lot of perks to being single that aren’t commonly spoken about. From self-actualization to getting to know yourself better, here’s why you should enjoy being single.

Being single helps you stay more focussed on your goals and ambitions. Oftentimes, when we find ourselves in relationships, we try to fit into a mold and focus on our partners needs as well as our own. And while it is okay to want to invest in the growth of your partner and do small things every now and then, it can sometimes take away a lot of our time and energy. Interestingly enough, many reports have suggested that those who experience an incident alone are not molded by other people’s perceptions of it.

You tend to be healthier and more fit than the ones who are married. Everyone and their mother knows that marriage can often lead people to unnecessary weight gain. You no longer have to keep up appearances and dress in a certain way once you’re married. As a result of this, many people let themselves go.

You’re more likely to have high goals and aspire to only settle down with a partner who is as successful as if not more successful than you are. Being single means you can’t just settle down with any Tom, Dick or Harry. Embracing your singlehood means you can focus on pursuing your goals and working towards a more complete and fulfilling future.

You will be in control of your own schedule. Once you get past the feeling of loneliness and start to realize how incredible being single feels, you will start to appreciate that your schedule is completely your own and you don’t’ have to worry about filling someone else in on where you are or what you’re doing.

Treating yourself will be your favorite form of self care. Dating means having to spend unnecessary amounts of money on dates as well as buying things for your partners. Single women get to save all that money and spend it on things they like instead. If you’re the type of person who enjoys cheap meals, you can finally explore that side of you and not feel guilty for it.

You no longer have to compromise on your entertainment choices. Did your ex only like sci-fi and thrillers and didn’t understand your love for horror movies? If yes, then you’re finally free! You can watch whatever you want, whenever you want and with whoever you want. There is no need to skimp on your favorite movies, plays and even TV shows if other people don’t appreciate it.

You have more time for friends and other loved ones. Not only will you have increased time in your schedule to do things you love, but you’ll also have more time in your schedule to spend with the ones you care most about. And of course your friends will be ready to take you back into their open arms and love you for who you are. Friends over everybody.

New hobbies and interests will start to spring into your life. Instead of constantly doing the same thing and repeating dates, you will finally have time to pursue the hobbies you like and want and perform activities that you’re passionate about. Maybe you’ve wanted to draw, maybe you’ve wanted to play the ukulele or maybe you just want to garden? Now that you’re single, you’ll have all the time in the world to pursue these activities with nobody to stop you.

You might end up being more creative when you’re single than if you’re in a relationship. Spending time alone will push you to think more deeply and open your mind up to things you might not have paid attention to. It might help you think outside of the box.

You will slowly start becoming aware of what you want and ultimately it will help you find the right person when the right time comes. By spending time experimenting with your hobbies, passions and friends you will slowly learn to accept yourself for who you are and not worry about the judgement of others. Ultimately, you won’t find happiness in another person. The only way to find everlasting happiness is to find it through yourself.

Eventually, you will learn not to look at being single as a drawback and rather look at it as an advantage. Plus single girls can sleep peacefully at night knowing that they don’t have a partner who might be cheating on them (just kidding). Tell us your thoughts in the comments below. Do you enjoy being single?
