The PadMan actor decided to help those people who help keep the industry running. Junior artists, daily wage workers, and migrant labourers have been facing the brunt of the virus due to lack of work and opportunities. Many of these people have been facing a financial crisis of an insurmountable value. Akshay Kumar has come to the rescue of these individuals and he has donated a staggering 45 lakhs to CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes’ Association) for the cause of distressed daily wage labourers. The actor clarified that he has ensured that he has donated 3000 to each of the 1500 artists and workers that are associated with the organization.

The actor had earlier donated an amount of around 25 crores to the PM Cares fund. He had also donated around 2 Crore to the Mumbai police in their active efforts to beat the virus and maintain the law. It is incredible to see Akshay take so many efforts to help those affected by the situation.

Akshay Kumar has also taken active efforts in the plight of underprivileged women who have to face their periods while handling all the other issues related to this pandemic. Many women are facing a shortage of sanitary products and many don’t even have access to those products during this time. The actor recently started taking his interest in the matter further by collaborating with Samarpan, which is a group of doctors and civil servants who work to alleviate the plight of underprivileged workers. The actor urged his fans to donate sanitary pads along with other essential necessities for workers. “A great cause needs your support. COVID doesn’t stop periods, help provide sanitary pads to underprivileged women across Mumbai. Every donation counts,” he said.

The organization had earlier teamed up with actor Kunal Kapoor to raise money under the initiative.

Akshay had been taking an active interest in promoting menstrual hygiene after he played the character of Lakshmikant or “Laxmi” Chauhan. His film PadMan was praised by critics across the board. He took part in many initiatives while promoting the film and even travelled to different countries to teach those who are underprivileged about the importance of maintaining menstrual hygiene. The film also featured Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in leading roles. PadMan was directed by famed director R Balki and was produced by Twinkle Khanna’s production venture.

The film was based on the real life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social activist in Tamil Nadu who broke barriers when it came to educating people about maintaining menstrual hygiene. The activist broke barriers by introducing many parts of rural South India to sanitary pads and hygiene. Twinkle Khanna was the person who came across his story and decided to shed light on the matter in her fantasy book, The Legend Of Lakshmi Prasad. She later served as one of the co-producers of this film as she believed “Our world is filled with viewers, not readers.”

It’s incredible to see major actors and actresses going out of their way to aid in the efforts to fight the virus off. From Sonu Sood to Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan, celebrities have been personally involved in the fight against COVID19. Many celebrities are also helping out by providing monetary aid to those affected by the virus and the lockdown. Do let us know your thoughts on this article in the comment section.
