Alia Bhatt has come a long way since her debut in Student Of The Year. While the film did perform well commercially, many were unimpressed with her role as the stereotypical spoiled brat, Shanaya. However, Alia corrected that notion after she proved her mettle in her next few films. From her heart-wrenching performances in Highway and Udta Punjab to her highly relatable performance in Dear Zindagi, she proved her versatility as an actress. While many do bring up the point that she is the daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and like to throw the nepotism argument into the mix, we can all agree that she is much more than a “star kid”. And now, at the ripe young age of 27, Alia has taken things a step further and decided to step into the shoes of a producer. The talented actress has announced the launch of her first production house as well as her first venture. So here’s what she had to say:

Eternal Sunshine Productions

Alia is quite the all-rounder, and before she decided to become a producer, she had also ventured into singing and had provided playback for two of her films— Highway and Udta Punjab. Alia released the logo of her production house on her Instagram page and captioned it— “Eternal Sunshine Productions. Let us tell you tales. Happy tales. Warm and fuzzy tales. Real tales. Timeless tales.” The adorable logo of her production house features two cats (Alia and her sister Shaheen love their cats) and has a super cute and quirky design.

With a staggering 14 Bollywood films under her name, it’s pretty cool to see that Alia is using her experience to start doing something different. Plenty of industry insiders reacted positively to the news, and she received a lot of positive comments on the post that she had shared. Her mentor Karan Johar also commented on the post with words of encouragement. Her mother, actress Soni Razdan wrote, “Congratulations! Super duper proud.” Actress Rakul Preet Singh, actor Ayushmman Khurrana, director Zoya Akhtar and celebrity fitness consultant Rujuta Diwekar too had kind words for Alia.

Collaboration With Red Chilies Entertainment

Two days ago, Alia announced her first venture called “Darling”. The film will star Alia herself along with critically acclaimed Delhi Crime actress Shefali Shah. It is meant to be a dark comedy and will contain strong themes of women empowerment. The film is being produced by Alia’s production house and it will also be a collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan’s and Gauri Khan’s production house, Red Chilies Entertainment. The film is going to be directed by Pati Patni Aur Woh director, Jasmeet K Reen. The film will also star Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew in supporting roles. Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma are set to helm the film as producers.

Alia has previously collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan on her film Dear Zindagi and the pair shared an interesting relationship with one another on screen. In Dear Zindagi, Shah Rukh Khan plays Alia’s therapist and the film did wonders for raising awareness about mental health and seeking therapy. We can imagine Darling will have just as unique a storyline and will probably be as compelling as Dear Zindagi. Considering the fact that we will get to see Alia acting alongside Shefali, we can imagine that the film will be an interesting watch.

Gangubai Kathiawadi And Future Work

Alia is all set to star in the Sanjay Leela Bansali directed film, Gangubai Kathiawadi. It has been scheduled for release on the 30th of July. The film is based on the true story of a woman named Gangubai Kothewali, who was sold into prostitution by the love of her life. However, this isn’t a sob story. Gangubai went on to become a madam of a brothel herself and had ties with Mumbai’s underworld. The film is set on the streets of Kamathipura, which was once a popular red light district in the city of Mumbai. The film will feature Alia in the lead role as Gangubai Kathiawadi. Alia had shared the trailer and first look for the films last week and received tonnes of praise from those in the industry.

Her co-star from Udta Punjab, Shahid Kapoor wrote, “Gundi to Hamesha se thi ab don ban gayi. loving it.” In the trailer, we see Alia taking on men twice her size and going out of her way to protect the prostitutes that she has taken under her wing. Since the film is set in Bombay from a time gone by, you can expect to see many interesting things like Ambassador cars, beedis, and many more classic features. Although the film was originally offered to Priyanka Chopra and Rani Mukherjee, both actresses had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. The film will also feature Vijay Raaz of Delhi Belly fame, newcomer Shantanu Maheswari as well as cameo appearances from Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi and Huma Qureshi.

We cannot wait to see what Alia has in store for us with her film! It will be interesting to see her play such a heavy and mature role and we also cannot wait to see what movies she will produce under her banner. Are you excited to watch Alia in Gangubai Kathiawadi?
