The Home Minister of India, Amit Shah took notice of Bihar MP Pappu Yadav’s letter inquiring for an investigation conducted over the untimely death of Sushant Singh Rajput. The much-loved actor died by suicide on the 14th of June and was discovered by his house staff. According to the police, the actor was struggling with depression and was on anti-depressants for around six months. Sushant’s death shocked fans and loved ones across the country. Many had reached out and asked about why the actor had decided to take such a drastic step. Even Sushant’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty came forward and asked for an inquiry into the matter. Here’s what happened:

Rhea Chakraborty shared a post on Instagram on the 16th of July stating that as Sushant’s girlfriend, she was requesting an inquiry into his death. The Mere Dad Ki Maruti actress stated in her post that she only wanted to find out about what prompted him to take such a drastic step. She stated that although she had the utmost faith in the Indian government she believed that it was in the “interest of justice” for the matter to be probed by the CBI. However, Amit Shah had already launched an inquiry into the matter and fans used this as an opportunity to further troll her in the comments for arriving “late to the party”. Many fans were questioning her motives for sharing the post 32 days after the actor passed away instead of immediately after his death.

The actress had earlier revealed that she was suffering a lot of abuse at the hands of social media users who attacked her for being Sushant’s girlfriend. She shared a screenshot of a direct message she had received on Instagram. The message stated that she would send someone to rape and kill Rhea if she doesn’t “commit suicide”. Recently the internet has turned into an environment where female entertainers have been receiving rape and death threats. Rhea’s post proves just how deep-rooted the problem is. Whether you liked her or not, it is not right to threaten someone with such heinous comments.

Inquiry Into Sushant’s Death

Exactly one month after the passing of the actor, on the 14th of June, Bihar MP Pappu Yadav revealed on his Twitter account that he had received confirmation from home minister Amit Shah that the inquiry had been forwarded to the concerned departments. Ever since the launch of this investigation, the hashtag #CBIForSushant has been trending on Twitter and fans are hoping for an answer. After all, the actor was much loved and well respected among his fans and was known for his phenomenal acting.

Earlier this week, former Union Cabin Minister, Dr. Subramanium Swamy had also written a letter to Prime Minister Modi requesting a CBI investigation into the matter of Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death. Through his advocate, the former minister had also penned down a letter to the Commissioner of the Mumbai police requesting electronic evidence to conduct a forensic examination.

When Karan Johar took to his Instagram account to share a picture of himself and Sushant Singh Rajput together after his death, he probably never expected the backlash he would receive. Karan Johar is often called the “father of nepotism” for his propensity to cast star kids in major movie roles. The director is famous for going on stage and chanting “nepotism nepotism” at a popular awards show and trolling actors and actresses who are newcomers into the industry. Clearly, the director’s post did not sit well with Sushant’s fans as it was revealed that the director and the actor allegedly had bad blood between them.

During one of the segments of Karan’s (now canceled) television show, Koffee With Karan, Alia Bhatt was asked to rate celebrities and when Sushant’s name was brought up, she haughtily replied, “Sushant Singh Rajput, Who?”. After Alia had shared a picture of Sushant’s on her Instagram, she received so much backlash from fans that she had to disable the comments on the image. Fans have been getting angry at the Bhatt family and Alia’s sister Shaheen Bhatt was recently sent r*pe and death threats. The writer took to her Instagram stories to share the hate messages and stated that none of the responses surprised her. Shaheen Bhatt is also a survivor of depression and many fans brought that up as well (1).

While many people are rightfully enraged at the Bollywood film industry for allegedly making nepotism a literal family business, sending death threats and rape threats is not the solution. Instead, be more mindful of the content you consume. While Sushant Singh Rajput’s death was extremely unfortunate, bullying people online is not the solution to the problem.
