It’s no secret that Coronavirus has taken the world by storm. The unexpected virus was first discovered in Wuhan, China in December of 2019 and spread globally in the blink of an eye. Due to this, most governments have enforced lockdown procedures to varying degrees. While a lot of people can afford to work from home, this decision has had a drastic impact on industries across the globe. From construction to restaurants to movie theaters, countries have had to shut down the doors of many places of public gatherings. This has had a drastic impact on the economy and has also caused production houses to shut down for the time being. In order to raise awareness, a few industry legends and newbies teamed up in a short film to raise awareness about social distancing. Read on to know more:

The short film was virtually directed by acclaimed filmmaker, Prasoon Pandey and was shot in the homes of every actor, separately in order to follow the social distancing rules set into place by the government. The film was made to raise awareness about the virus which has now killed over 82,000 people across the globe. It brought actors from various industries together and featured a script that contained multiple languages from Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali to Tamil and Telugu. The film itself starred actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ranbir Kapoor, Chiranjeevi, Priyanka Chopra, Mohanlal, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Mammootty, Alia Bhatt, Shiva Rajkumar and Rajinikanth (1).

The comical short film detailed the actors’ attempts to help Amitabh find his signature dark sunglasses. Although none of the actors were in the same location, the movie was shot in a way to make it look like they were interacting with one another in the same house. As you see through the course of the film, things take a humorous turn when Amitabh says he didn’t need to wear the glasses at this point as he is isolating in his home and won’t be going out anytime soon. He explained that the only reason he wanted his glasses was that when he did get the time to go out, he would have them close by rather than having to find them later.

The Bigger Picture

The short film entailed an important message towards the end of it. Amitabh drew attention to the fact that many people who work as daily wage earners and workers are unable to provide for their families due to this crisis. The actor spoke candidly about how the cast of this film had come together with sponsors and a TV channel to raise funds to provide relief to these individuals. He also encouraged his fans to stay safe and at home as staying indoors is the only way to prevent the virus from spreading rapidly amongst the population. The actor ended his address with the words, “So don’t be scared, don’t panic. This dark cloud shall pass too. Namaste.”

The short film was supported by Kalyan Jewelers, Amitabh Bachchan, and Sony Pictures Networks India. Earlier, Sony Pictures Networks India released a statement explaining their reasons behind making the short film. The network stated, “Through a commercial tie-up with a leading chain of hypermarkets and grocery stores in India, digitally barcoded coupons have been distributed to a verified list of workers from the All India Film Employees Confederation. Furthermore, monetary help has also been extended to those in need,” The company had earlier shared a trailer for the film on their social media handle and tagged all the actors involved in the making of the film.

Coming Together For An Important Cause

Many celebrities in India have come forward to release video messages to raise awareness about the infectious disease. Salman Khan recently shared a video message where he urged all his fans to follow precautionary measures when it comes to COVID19. The actor spoke about how the virus is everywhere from our trains and busses to the market. He stated that people should stay inside their homes and not come out as it is not a public holiday but a life-threatening disease. He encouraged his fans to wash their hands thoroughly, wear a mask if they’re going out in a crowded area and maintain social distance from one another. Besides Salman Khan, many other celebrities like Madhuri Dixit, Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, and Ajay Devgn came together in a video to talk about the rules and measures we should adopt to keep ourselves safe.

It’s incredible to see our film industry come together during this trying time and help raise awareness about this devastating virus. While India is one of the lesser hit countries, the virus is still spreading at a rapid rate and the doctors have to fight really hard to keep it under control. The best way to keep ourselves safe from this virus is to stay at home and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary. Tell us your thoughts on this article in the comment section below.
