Apples Aren’t Sweet Anymore And The Climate Change Is The Culprit

An apple a day keeps the doctor away! And, it is most likely that you are going to pick Fuji apples.

Fuji apples are the best and have always been known as the sweetest variety of apples. But, have you ever noticed how long it has been since you have actually bit into a naturally sweet, juicy apple? Well, however unfortunate it might be, it is true that the sweetness of the apples is diminishing slowly, yet steadily.

A group of scientists from Japan studied the quality of these delicious Fuji apples and compared the fruits of today to the fruits from the 1970s. The results were astonishing!

Not only are the fruits available today less tasty, but also they are mealier and more prone to disease. These scientists have found that the only factor responsible for this is the change in climate.

In the past, apples were naturally sweet and delicious. The plants were also healthy. But the apples today are totally different. They  have been tested, and it was found that the concentration of the malic acid that is responsible for flavor is much lower. This makes the apples less firm and more prone to disease. The apples are also susceptible to watercore, which breaks down the fruit on the inside, and ripens it faster.

All this is only because of the change in climate. The temperatures have risen drastically since the best apples have been produced, so much that they trick the trees into flowering earlier. The trees’ growing cycle seems to have gotten completely confused. This has resulted in the decline in the flavor of the once amazingly sweet fruits.

Of course, this study was done only on the Fuji apples from Japan, but it holds true for most of our favorite fruits. Very soon, we will see the flavor diminish to such an extent that the fruits might become totally unpalatable. Before that happens, let us work towards saving our earth and eliminating the effects of global warming.
