Everyone talks about traveling to Goa, but did you know that there are quite a few other states and territories that are known for their equally charming beaches? While Goa has gotten more and more commercialized lately, there are still a few beaches that are super fun and interesting to visit. There are also plenty of beaches that are in remote locations across the country and even more that are close to reach via major cities. If you’re looking to visit the beach anytime soon but don’t wish to leave the country, definitely give this list a read. Here’s a look at ten different beaches across various states and union territories of the country that will make you feel like you’re in the Bahamas:

1. Varkala Beach, Kerala

Varkala beach is located around 40 kilometers away from Kerala’s capital district, Trivandrum and is quite a popular spot. It has a beautiful rocky coastline and pristine water. In fact, Varkala is the only place in southern Kerala that has cliffs by the sea. Varkala beach is so famous that the co-founder of Uber, Travis Kalanick had stated that he spent two weeks at the beach writing code. We can imagine it was a sight to see!

Gokarna is often called “the Goa that once was”. Unlike Goa though, most of the locals have preserved the immense beauty of this beach and have been highly dedicated to keeping it safe from too many meddling tourists. This is the perfect beach for those who are looking for solitude and peace, while also being well stacked with a good crowd of young tourists. If you hate the aunty-uncle crowd that ruins everyone’s beach experiences with moral policing and unnecessary stares, Gokarna is the place for you!

3. Palolem Beach, Goa

Palolem beach is a beach for all you party lovers out there. Like most of South Goa, the beach is very isolated and located in a bay. The locals usually keep to themselves and it’s a great place to go if you’re just looking to vibe and chill out. Palolem is lined with coconut and palm trees, and gorgeous colorful houses. Once the sun goes down though, the peaceful beaches’ true colors shine through. Palolem is also known for its nightclubs and amazing food. So if you reaaaaallly do have to make that trip to Goa, we’d suggest you camp out over here!

Auroville Beach is located around 12 kms away from Pondicherry and is the ideal place for a weekend getaway. The beach offers a picturesque landscape and is known for its wonderful sunsets and even more wonderful sunrises. If you’re in Pondicherry and have some spare time, we’d advise you to definitely give this beach a visit.

5. Radhanagar Beach, Havelock Island

Radhanagar beach on Havelock Island has often been featured on Asia’s most beautiful beaches list by numerous magazines over the years. The stunning visual treat of a beach is located on the Andaman and Nicobar islands and is extremely popular among both locals and tourists. The beach is next to a thick tropical jungle, which makes it a little more difficult to access than other beaches but we guarantee you that it’s totally worth it.

6. Minicoy Tropical Island, Lakshadweep

Minicoy which is also known as Maliku is just one of the many islands located in the Lakshadweep belt of India. It is situated about 400 kms west of Trivandrum and surrounded on all sides by the beautiful Arabian sea. Minicoy is the second largest of the Lakshadweep islands and is known for its still and serene blue waters and numerous resorts.

7. Tarkarli Beach, Maharashtra

Tarkarli beach or Malvan is a popular beach that is located in the Western state of Maharashtra. If you’re looking to go on a family vacation and try out adventure sports, then Tarkarli beach is the place for you. Resorts around the beach offer scuba diving, adventure and water sports, paragliding and tonnes of other activities that will keep both you, and your family happy.

Puri Beach is located in the pilgrim town of Puri in the eastern state of Orissa. Puri beach is lined with an incredible golden coast, and is an extremely beautiful visual treat for any beach lover. And what’s more, it’s located in a pilgrimage town so you can feel a lot safer. Like Tarkarli, there’s also tonnes of water and adventure sports activities that you can partake in.

9. Mandvi Beach, Bhuj

Mandvi beach is located at the southern tip of the district of Kutch in the state of Gujarat. It is an integral part of Gujarat and was a major port back in the day. Currently, however, you can enjoy water sports there and even try taking part in a few cultural activities whilst there.

10. Rushikonda Beach, Andhra Pradesh

Rushikonda beach is a stunningly green beach located off the coast of Visakhapatnam. The beach is in the Bay of Bengal and is quite remote and easy to get to. You can try out adventure sports like paragliding and many other fun activities at the beach.
