These 6 Habits Can Kill Your Love Life

When things go wrong in a relationship, quite often, it’s our attitudes and behaviors which are to be blamed. These attitudes can pertain to anything, your work life, your social circle, and even your bedroom habits. Yes, bedroom habits.

In a perfect world, the bedroom should function as the sanctuary of the couple wherein, they leave the outside world at its doors. But that rarely happens. Life with its never-ceasing demands finds a way to enter into your bedroom, which is actually supposed to be a sacred zone, for you and your partner. Whether it’s you answering a couple of urgent work emails or the kids insisting to bunk with you, or a pet that will just not take “no” for an answer — your bedroom becomes a war-zone territory, instead of being the garden of Eden.

And even though you might not realize it, it affects your love life. To warn you of such self-destructive behaviors that can fatally harm your relationship with your partner, we drew a list of 6 such common bedtime habits that can kill your love life.

Here they are:

1. Having Daily Schedule Meetings With Your Partner Before Bed

The boudoir is not the place where you discuss who is supposed to pick up the kids after school or who has to pay the bills. In fact, these meetings that are meant to discuss the logistics of your daily life, spell doom for your romance, if they often find their way to your bedroom.

We understand that in order to function smoothly as a unit, you need to hash out such details, but might we suggest setting aside 20 minutes before or after dinner to do so? This way, you can schedule your day without snuffing out the romantic time.

2. Spending More Time On Your Phone Than With Your Partner

There is nothing more off-putting than when your partner refuses to acknowledge your presence in bed, because they are so immersed in a game on their phone or because they are too busy surfing Instagram. This also backfires when you want to spend some time with them between the sheets. Instead, we suggest you keep your phone outside the bedroom or if you use it as an alarm, then switch on the airplane mode so you don’t get distracted.

3. Letting Your Bedroom Become Your Kids’ Or Your Pet’s Playground

It’s all right to let your children climb into bed with you, if they are feeling distressed or if they just want a good snuggle, every once in a while. After all, they are kids. But don’t make a habit of it. And as far as allowing your pet into bed goes, you’re not only being an irresponsible partner by doing that, but you’re also being an irresponsible pet parent. Make the bedroom a no-pet zone.

4. Making Bedroom Your Private Office

Your partner is not your roommate, and you want to associate your bedroom, the one place that is meant to be just for the two of you, with ideas of romance and intimacy. If you start answering emails on your laptop every night or decide to make your PowerPoint presentations in bed, then that aura is no longer there. If you must, answer the emails in another room, but try to leave your job at the door.

5. Leaving The Bedroom To Become Cluttered

While this is certainly not a sermon on cleanliness, if you have piles of laundry, dirty dishes piling up in a corner of the bedroom, it is not likely to set the mood, is it?
Forget about getting lucky, this might actually lead to an argument with your partner as to why you don’t cooperate with the housework.

Clutter isromance-killer. You would do good by cleaning up your act in the bedroom. Now, that can definitely score you some brownie points!

6. Catching Up On The News In Bed

We all feel the urge to catch up on the day’s stories and see what all we have missed, but this habit of ours doesn’t do us any favors with our partners. Your bedtime is your “couple” time, where you can spend a few moments in quiet intimacy. Reading about distressing events can upset you, and that can hamper this quality time.
If you want to feel close to your partner, we would suggest you try catching up on the news in the morning.

These seemingly innocuous habits can put a dampener on your love life. Now that we have created this primer for you, be mindful of these habits and don’t let them get in the way of your love life. We don’t have to spell it out, but it sure doespay to be attentive in the bedroom. Happy cuddling, you lovebirds!
