Maine Pyaar Kiya Actress, Bhagyashree Opens Up About The Time She Was Separated From Her Husband Himalaya Dasani

Who does not love a childhood love story that has stood the test of time? It is the best kind of love that one can find. When you meet someone as a young adult and fall in love with them, there is something so special about it. They have been a part of your life for so long and have seen all sides of you – the good, bad and ugly; the silly, young and even your pre-puberty phase. As an advocate of romance, the entertainment industry has seen all kinds of love right from childhood romance to unconventional adult romance. Bollywood has seen many stories of love and this one is no different. The actress who rose to fame after her super hit movie Maine Pyaar Kiya, Bhagyashree recently opened up about the time she spent apart from her husband. She said that there was a time in her life where she thought about how her life would be if she married someone else because they were apart for a year and a half.
Bhagyashree was a young, fresh face when she bagged the lead role in the movie Maine Pyaar Kiya. It was her debut film and it made her a star overnight. Fans loved her and she even won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for it. After this movie with Salman Khan, she was approached with multiple offers for big films but she turned down every one of them because she chose to tie the knot and stay away from films. She was touted as the next big star in Bollywood but she had different plans for herself. Bhagyashree married her childhood sweetheart Himalaya Dasani in 1990 and gave up her career in acting after that for more than a decade. The actress has said multiple times that it is a choice she made and is very happy with it.
The High School Love Story
In an interview, Bhagyashree revealed that they were in school together. She said that he was the naughtiest kid in class while she was always the class monitor. They would fight all the time and through all the fighting they realized that it was difficult to be apart. She said that they were like Yin and Yang. Talk about a love-hate relationship! Even though they liked each other, they never dated and until the last day of school, Himalaya did not tell her how he felt about her. He would tell her that he has something to say and then chicken out at the last minute. He did this for an entire week until Bhagyashree went up to him and told him that he should just tell her what it is because the answer is going to be positive. That is when he mustered up the courage to tell her that he likes her.
Even though they had confessed their feelings towards each other, they did not meet or talk on the phone because Bhagyashree came from a conservative family who did not encourage it. Her family said that she was too young to decide something like this and she believed so too. That is when they broke up. Bhagyashree told Himalaya that if he truly loved her, they should spend some time apart for a while before they decide anything. While he went to pursue his education in the USA, she signed up for her debut movie Maine Pyaar Kiya.
Against All Odds
During the shooting of the film and while he was away, Bhagyashree realized that Himalaya was the man for him. But even though she told her parents that he makes her happy and wants to be with him, they were against it. They did not approve of the relationship. Seeing that there was no other way, she left her house and got married in a small temple in the presence of Himalaya’s parents and a few of their friends.
Recently a video has been making rounds on the internet. In the video, Bhagyashree reminisces about the time when she was separated from her husband for a while. She says that for about one and a half years they were separated and she thought about what her life would be like if she did not marry him. She said that just thinking about that feeling makes her scared even now.
Bhagyashree is often asked if she regrets letting go of a bright career but the former actress says that she is very happy with the choice she made. She says that being a homemaker is a thankless job but she is proud of it because she has raised two wonderful children. The couple is blessed with a daughter and a son and they are often seen taking long holidays as a family. It is indeed lovely to see them as one happy family.
