Alas, Dhoni fans, the time has finally come for the legend to take a step back from his cricket career. While many of us might still be in denial about it, the truth is that all good things have to come to an end. On the occasion of India’s 74th Independence Day, one of India’s most famous cricket players of all time announced that he would be retiring. Yes, MS Dhoni has announced to fans after months of speculation that he is no longer going to be a part of the Indian cricket team. Actor and people’s hero, Sonu Sood shared an image on his Twitter of himself and Dhoni. Sonu’s tweet went viral and he gave the image a heartfelt caption— “Legends do not retire. It is the beginning of new innings”. Many people voiced their love for the actor and the cricket legend and stated that they are both legends in their own right.

Kal Ho Na Ho actress Priety Zinta also thanked Dhoni and shared an image of the two of them with the caption, “The Helicopter has landed but the ride will be unforgettable.” She thanked him for all the incredible memories that they shared and wished him the best in life. Preity even added the hashtags #CaptainCool and #Indiasfinest.

Arjun Kapoor too took to his Instagram to share an image with the beloved cricket captain and spoke about how he is bigger than a star or a legend and that he is in a league of his own. The actor added that Dhoni was the only person who had left him start struck both on the field and off it. Arjun wrote, “I don’t care much for taking pictures because it’s something that now happens ever so often to us with selfies & camera phones but this is one I cherish. Thank You for the Memories.”

Ranveer Singh shared a major throwback picture from when he was 22 posing next to Dhoni. The actor spoke about how he considered the photo one of his most prized possessions and that he was working as an assistant director at that time. Ranveer spoke about how he took up the ad film just so he could meet and interact with Dhoni. He added that he was both underpaid and overworked during that time period but it didn’t matter to him as he got to meet his idol. Ranveer’s caption detailed the struggles of shoots and he added that he had been injured while on the shoot as well.
Ranveer added that when he first met Dhoni he was completely awestruck by the man he saw and appreciated him for his humility and down-to-earth nature. He spoke about how he was full of grace and exuded an unmistakable era of kindness. Ranveer spoke about how he reconnected with Dhoni after the release of his first film Band Baaja Baarat. He spoke about how they reconnected through celebrity hairstylist and their mutual friend, Sapna Bhavnani. He added that Dhoni was very appreciative of his performance in his film and took time out from his shoot to interact with him. He added that it was a true fanboy moment for him and that Dhoni even signed some merchandise for him. The actor ended his emotional tribute with, “MSD is one of the greatest sportsmen to have ever lived. I’m lucky to have witnessed his playing career in my lifetime. A paragon of excellence. An icon of the sport. My hero forever.”

Farhan too expressed his sadness at not seeing Dhoni play on the screens anymore. He thanked Dhoni for his incredible abilities as a captain and for his “nail-biting” finishes. The actor added that he wished the ex-cricket captain the best of luck in the upcoming years. He also thanked Dhoni for his many years of cricket glory.

He thanked the cricket player for all the incredible memories he had given his fans and added that he filled the nation with belief and pride. Abhishek ended his note by stating that Dhoni was one of the greatest of all time (GOAT).
