While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, certain conventional standards of beauty have remained the same since time immemorial. Youthful radiance, fair dewy skin, pouty lips and big brown eyes are a common picture we see in Indian media. To put it bluntly, our beauty standards favor colonial and western standards of beauty. Instead of admiring our uniquely Indian features, we end up coveting Western and angle features. Due to this, there has been a rising amount of Indian women opting for plastic surgery. And while there is nothing wrong with indulging in plastic surgery and wanting to change the way you look, some women take it too far. In fact, many actresses have very obviously gone under the knife to achieve their seemingly ‘natural’ pouts and have vehemently denied getting surgery. Here is a list of Bollywood actresses who’ve allegedly had work done on their lips:

The Mr. India actress had vehemently denied rumors of going under the knife despite many people noticing the staggering difference in her appearance. The veteran actress is said to have undergone a rhinoplasty and received lip fillers. And those who’ve followed her career from the time she was a child artist would be able to tell the stark differences in her appearance since then. When asked about whether the rumors were true, the actress laughed it off and said that she lead a very active lifestyle and it reflected on the way she looked.
2. Vaani Kapoor
When Vaani Kapoor made her fresh-faced debut in Shudh Desi Romance, people were blown away with her natural girl-next-door look. However, when the trailer of Befikre dropped, the same fans were astounded to see that she looked nothing like she used to before! Many trolled the actress for the extent of plastic surgery she has done. The actress however, vehemently denied rumors and stated that the change was due to weight loss and “camera angles”. She also claimed that she couldn’t afford surgery as she was just one film old.
3. Esha Gupta
Many fans have trolled Esha Gupta for allegedly undergoing lip surgery but the star rubbished rumors and posted a video on her Instagram. In the video, the actress blows kisses to her fans (and haters) captioning the video with “For all those who see me differently everyday… even gave you the #nofilter #nomakeuplook love y’all #lipsdontlie”
4. Anushka Sharma
The PK actress was in the news after a 2014 appearance on Koffee With Karan. Many believed the actress had gone under the knife to get lip fillers and achieve a fuller pout. However, the actress denied all the rumors and stated she learned “makeup techniques” while on the sets of Bombay Velvet and stated that she was human and not perfect. The actress released a statement on Twitter following the controversy. She wrote “For a short while now I have been using a temporary lip enhancing tool and that along with make up techniques (I have learnt over the years) is the reason why there might be a change in the appearance of my lips. I have by no means gone ‘under the knife’ or done any kind of ‘plastic surgery’ or undergone any intrusive procedure.”
5. Priyanka Chopra
While the gorgeous actress has never admitted to having a nose job, only a blind person would believe her. The stark differences in her appearance are very obvious. The actress allegedly underwent rhinoplasty somewhere at the start of her career to fix her dis-proportionate face. And while the actress has always had a healthy pout, fans can’t help but notice her pout seems to have suddenly gotten a bit too big. The actress had addressed being bullied for the way she looked in the past but has never addressed lip filler rumors… yet.
6. Ayesha Takia
Ayesha Takia became the fodder of trollers across the country after images of her seemingly enhanced face went viral. In an interview with a leading newspaper, the actress claimed that “vicious people” and “gossip publications” had stolen her images and morphed and distorted them to make them appear like she had work done.
7. Shruti Haasan
The actress recently took to Instagram to share her own #10YearChallenge and captioned the picture with “Ten years??I always miss my bangs but I deffo don’t miss the ugly in between stage of growing them out ! 2009-2019 #10yearchallenge.” Unfortunately for her, trollers took this as an opportunity to call her plastic girl and mock her appearance. Some users commented things like “Full of plastic” and “So fake”. The Luck actress has allegedly undergone rhinoplasty as well as a lip job but has never addressed the rumors or given them much attention.
While there is nothing wrong with getting plastic surgery or wanting to change your appearance, it’s not okay to mislead fans. As a role model, one must be wary of what they say on a public platform and calling yourself ‘natural’ after having surgery is not alright. It could lead to impressionable teens developing insecurities about their own appearance or indulging in challenges like the “Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge” that could cause permanent damage to their features.
