5 Bollywood Movies That Had The Coolest And Most Kind Parents

Movies influence audiences to a large extent. Right from behaviors and fashion to even parenting abilities, Bollywood inspires many viewers and fans on lifestyle and skills. What was scary was how regressive and toxic some parenting characters used to be in the past. Bollywood movies portrayed parents who believed in strange, age-old traditions and archaic ideologies. However, over the years a lot has changed and we’ve seen movies with super cool parents who support and understand their children. Although these characters are fictional, many of us wish that our parents were half as cool as them. However, some of us relate to them because we have been fortunate enough to have parents who share a close bond with us rather than being khadoos. So, here are five Bollywood movies that have the coolest and kindest parents that every kid wishes they had.

  • Pumpkin And Peachy

You know who they are… yes, that’s right, Aditi’s parents from the movie Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. Not only were they supportive of their children’s career choices but they also offered super cool advice to Aditi’s friends. Remember Aditi’s brother Amit? He was unusual and had his set of quirks but he had the freedom to be who he was. How many of us can say that our parents let us be who we want to be? Not many, because they would rather try to mold us into their idea of perfect so “Sharma Uncle” will approve. Pumpkin and Peachy are the perfect inspiration to those parents out there who keep trying to change their children.

  • Bunny’s Father And Stepmother

Another example of a parent who stood by his son’s aspirations irrespective of his fears, is Bunny’s father in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. He was played by the late Farooq Sheikh and his character warmed audiences’ hearts with his support of Bunny’s ambition and his calm demeanor. In the movie, Bunny does not get along with his stepmother and is often seen as being rude to her. However, in the latter part of the movie, he reconciles with his stepmother and they share a heart to heart bond. Parents who do not pass on their fears to us and let us follow our passion have to be some of the coolest, right?

  • The Kakkars

We are slowly coming into an era where parents like these are becoming more relatable (Thank God!). Remember the Kakkars in Band Baaja Baaraat? Not only did they choose to not give in to the societal pressure of marrying off their daughter, Shruti, but they also supported her entrepreneurial spirit and even encouraged her. Played by Anushka Sharma, Shruti Kakkar’s dream of being a wedding planner was successfully fulfilled because of the unwavering support she received from her father. Although her mother was a little skeptical initially and pushes her to get married, she embraces her daughter’s dream and offers her wholehearted support.

  • Rani’s Parents

A must-watch movie, Queen is empowering and entertaining. Kangana Ranaut portrays the character of Rani, a small town traditional woman whose wedding gets called off because her fiance ditches her at the last moment. As angry, sad, and frustrated as she is, Rani does not let it stop her from going on her honeymoon alone. Yes, alone. You go, gurl! Her parents comfort her and encourage her to do so too. How cool is that? While they are concerned about her safety and emotional well being, they understand her needs to get over a broken heart and offer complete support. Hailing from a small town where it is difficult to get people to stop talking about these things, her parents do not worry about “log kya kahenge”. These are the best kind of parents, do you agree? They do not blame or criticize her for the broken wedding and instead stand by her and help her with what she needs.

  • Bhaskor Banerjee

Played by veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, Bhaskor Banerjee in Piku is a father who is very relatable to those of you who have stubborn and aged parents. He drives his daughter Piku, played by Deepika Padukone, crazy with his paranoid and perverse personality. If you’ve seen the movie, you must be wondering why Bhaskor Banerjee is on this list, right? How is a stubborn old man who makes his daughter’s life miserable one of the coolest parents? Let me tell you how. He single-handedly raises his daughter to be a strong independent woman who takes care of not only herself but also her father. We live in a patriarchal society where we could use more parents like Bhaskor Banerjee (maybe less of the pig-headedness) who believe in gender equality and women empowerment.

While Bollywood movies have always been famous for love stories and romantic relationships, it also shows us examples of parents who not only love their children but also respect them for who they are— another human being. Which parent was the most relatable for you? Comment below and let us know if we missed out on any of your favorite cool Bollywood parents.
