This can be a petty reason, but, trust us, this is one of the major reasons that women these days are so willing to go after a breast reduction procedure. Until our introduction to the Kardashian world, most women were even unaware of the existence of such procedures. Breast reduction surgeries are really common now and the fact that they are done in most of the hospitals around us makes it easier for women to go for it.

But hey, aren’t you disturbing the natural structure of your breast here? While you can get the desired result, you might also be plagued with certain side-effects. Take a look at the changes or the problems you will have to face upon getting a breast reduction surgery done. Let’s read.

1. You Will Face Problems With Breastfeeding Your Child

Breast reduction surgery usually involves removing of breast tissue in order to move the nipple and the areola up and make that perfect lift. Removing of the breast tissues or dividing it, both of these can cause a decrease in the number of milk ducts in your breast. Lesser milk ducts lead to lower milk production (1). This will make it tough to breastfeed your child. Therefore, if you plan on having kids, then it’s better to plan on this surgery a litter later on in your life.

2. You Might Not Feel Your Nipples Anymore

Be it any kind of surgery, they all come with certain risk factors — infections, allergic reactions, blood clots, scars, etc. Similarly, the breast reductions come with their own set of setbacks. The major one being losing out on the sensation of your nipples (2). Doctors say it’s a temporary loss, but for some, the sensation can be gone forever. You either end up with hyper sensation in your nipples or you will feel nothing at all. Both of which aren’t good and can leave a loophole in your sex life. If you find this to be of some concern then talk it out to your doctor and then opt for the surgery.

3. You Will Have Scars That Require A Follow-Up Procedure

Simply put, you’re reducing your breasts by a considerable measure, and that too, surgically. It doesn’t take a genius to understand that surgeries do leave behind scars and this surgery is no exception either. The scars are going to stay and they will remind you of your surgical procedure. Doctors might tell you that it’s just a one-step procedure, but that’s certainly not the case. In most cases, a follow-up procedure might be required. Which means you will have to lay in that operation theatre not once, but twice. Not a good idea, right? Scary!

4. The Recovery Is Another Journey Altogether

You might find your doctor telling you that you’ll have to take around 3-4 weeks off from your college or work in order to recover from the procedure. A lot of precautionary measures need to be taken after the surgery. You are required to not strain your chest, which means you need assistance in performing the household or everyday chores for a few weeks. You will always have to wear a post-surgery bra at day and at night. You’re bound to feel exhausted after the surgery, but you will be asked to start doing simple exercises after you’ve recovered. And from then on, it’s up to you to take care of yourself and make sure that the surgery was worth it.

5. There’s No Guarantee That You Will End Up With The “Perfect Breasts”

Please remember that breast reduction surgeries are only meant to reduce the size of your breasts and nothing more. And many opt for these surgeries in order to reduce the unbearable back or neck pain they face because of the heaviness of the breasts. Post the surgery, you will have scars, wounds, and even a loss of sensation on the nipples. Of course, you are going to feel lighter, but will you be ready to live with the consequential cons? That’s something you need to ask yourself.

We hope now you are aware of the cons of a breast reduction surgery. Whatever you decide on, be sure you wouldn’t regret your decision. Be well-versed with its after effects by talking to your doctor.
