Everybody knows Karan Johar for his propensity to attract drama and controversy. The director has recently come under the spotlight and has been scrutinized by many fans for his stance on nepotism following the death of actor, Sushant Singh Rajput. After the controversy surrounding Karan Johar’s post on Sushant Singh Rajput and the flak he received from fans, the channel that airs the show, Star World, might not renew it for a new season. The show is still available on Star’s streaming service at the moment but there is no information on its future there.

Koffee With Karan is Karan Johar’s brainchild and back before social media was a thing, was the only place to get all the hot gossip on your favorite celebrities. However, many celebrities have openly criticized the show and many have even refused to appear on it. When asked about his feeling towards the show, Ranbir Kapoor expressed that he was “tired of it” and was quoted as saying, “I told him (Karan) I don’t want to come. I and Anushka are actually going to protest and get the entire film industry together to stop this because it’s not fair. He’s making money out of us. It’s not right.” So here are a few celebrities who weren’t afraid to give it back to the TV host:

1. Kangana Ranaut

Of course, we had to start this list with Karan Johar’s mortal enemy (Jk! Or are we?). Kangana entered Bollywood through sheer hard work and talent and had made a name for herself as a self-made actress. However, she is no stranger to controversy and hasn’t been shy from speaking about taboo topics. On an episode of KWK, the director asked her if she would rather be rich and single or find true love and be poor. To which, Kangana fittingly replied, “Your idea of poverty is very different from my idea of poverty.”

2. Konkona Sen Sharma

When Karan asked Konkona who she believed the most overrated actor in Bollywood was, the Lipstick Under My Burkha actress gave a fitting reply. Konkona answered that she believed Karan Johar’s acting in his film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was the most overrated.

3. Farah Khan

Farah Khan isn’t one to keep her mouth zipped either. The famed director hit back at Karan after he made an inappropriate comment about her love life. Karan asked about her life in the bedroom and Farah jokingly asked for a moment of silence. When Karan asked, “For your s*x life?”, Farah replied, “For yours, we will have to stand for the whole show”. Talk about giving it back!

4. Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan is an expert at staying out of the limelight and keeping a relatively low profile. When he made an appearance on KWK, Karan asked him what is the one thing he dislikes about the industry that he has to put up with, Aamir replied, “Your show!”

5. Twinkle Khanna

Yes, even Karan’s best friend Twinkle Khanna has not spared him on his show. During an episode she featured on, Karan asked her to reveal the meanest comment someone had passed on her writing. Twinkle said “When you started writing columns they said KJo is the new Mrs. Funnybones. I didn’t want my standards to go so down.”

OUCH. Even we felt that burn!

6. Kajol

Kajol and Karan have had an odd relationship over the 25 years that they’ve known each other. Due to Karan and her husband Ajay Devgn having a rival-like professional relationship, the actress has often been cast in the middle. During an appearance on his show, Kajol was asked to name celebrities who needed a crash course in acting, Kajol hit back and took his name. Talk about savage!

While the anger towards Karan Johar has been rising, many have taken to social media to criticize the director. The director is known for launching “star kids” and has been the prime candidate at the center of the “nepotism” debate. This isn’t the first time that he has been called out and it probably won’t be the last.

However, all things said and done, Karan is still a human being and it isn’t right to cyberbully or threaten anybody. While the show might have been good fun for many of us to watch, it clearly wasn’t fun for the actors being grilled on the couch. It’s about time that we stopped promoting shows that thrive on mocking others for views. If we truly do want to change the content of Indian cinema, we as consumers should be mindful fo what we give our attention to. Do tell us if you believe Koffee With Karan should be off-air or not in the comment section below.
