When it comes to Bollywood, there are a lot of celebrity relationships that catch us off guard or may not be what they seem to be. And other times there are celebrity relationships that seem pretty doomed from the start itself. Many times, exes have gone on and shamed their past lovers during interviews or subtly (but not really) shaded them. Some leading ladies have dated the same leading man and have hence had beef with each other over it. However, as with most things in the entertainment industry, people move on and often mend ways and get on better terms. So let’s take a look at some unconventional relationships that worked out and others that did not:
1. Jacqueline Fernandez and Sajid Khan
The Sri Lankan beauty and the now defamed director had a very lengthy relationship that seemed to pop up completely out of the blue. Initially the breakup was blamed on Sajid’s over possessiveness over Jacqueline. The director had later gone on to comment on the demise of their relationship and revealed that he felt like she was “nagging” and a distraction to his career. While they were set to tie the knot in 2013, things allegedly started getting sour between the pair in December 2012 itself. Sajid has been facing a lot of flak as many women have now come forward and accused him of harassment.
2. Aishwarya Rai And Salman Khan
This relationship didn’t seem all that bad at the start as both the superstars were at the height of their careers. However, Salman, who has even admitted in the past that it’s difficult for someone to be in a relationship with him, was accused of being physically abusive towards Aishwarya. During an interview, she stated that he allegedly suffered from alcoholism and used to show up on her sets and often beat her. She stated that it was one of the worst phases of her life and spoke about how he accused her of infidelity yet cheated on her himself. Aishwarya walked away from that relationship and eventually tied the knot with Abhishek Bachchan. They now share a child together. Meanwhile, Salman Khan is a perpetual bachelor.
3. Shahid Kapoor And Priyanka Chopra
While this relationship did not last long, it came after Shahid and Kareena broke up. But the thing is, Priyanka Chopra was one of Kareena’s biggest rivals back in those days. While both actresses have hashed out their differences and even appeared on Koffee With Karan together, we can bet that was an awkward topic. After a few months, Priyanka moved on and is now married to Hollywood singing sensation, Nick Jonas.
4. Akshay Kumar And Shilpa Shetty
Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty were a major power couple back in the 90s and were apparently even set to tie the knot. However, the pair split up and Akshay tied the knot with Twinkle Khanna instead. Shilpa was said to be heartbroken over the breakup and had allegedly stated during an interview that Akshay had used her and then dumped her for the next beautiful girl. She stated that she was only upset with him however and believed that karma would get him back. Shilpa also stated that as far as she was concerned, he was a forgotten chapter and she had decided not to work with him professionally.
5. Kangana Ranaut And Aditya Pancholi
One of the reasons this relationship caught us off guard was because there was a massive age gap between the pair. Aditya Pancholi was and is still married to his wife Zarina Wahab. Kangana had accused the actor of being physically violent and emotionally manipulative towards her and had even filed a case against him. Kangana only confessed to the abusive relationship after she had established herself within the industry as she was only a teenager when Aditya had groomed her.
6. Saif Ali Khan And Amrita Singh
Another relationship where there was a major age gap was between Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. Amrita Singh was much older than Saif Ali Khan and the pair had tied the knot quite quickly after having a whirlwind of a romance. However, their relationship eventually met its demise and the pair parted ways in a tumultuous divorce. Saif had allegedly bashed his ex wife in an interview and spoken about how she said extremely abusive things to him and criticized his family.
7. Ranveer Singh And Anushka Sharma
Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma were dating around the time they were shooting Band Baaja Baaraat. Although the pair split up quite quickly as Ranveer allegedly had been getting a bit close to Sonakshi Sinha after they acted in the film Lootera together. The pair are now happily married to the love of their lives and Anushka and her cricket player husband, Virat Kohli are now parents to a baby girl. Ranveer on the other hand, is married to Deepika Padukone and they’re absolutely adorable together.
