As Bollywood fans, it makes us happy when our favorite celebrities get together in marriage or announce that they are in a relationship. We ship them and invest in their lives to a point where the news of their separation breaks our hearts. As much as we are delighted to hear celebrity couples entering into wedlock, it also saddens us when they part ways. Of course, the decision of their separation solely depends on the couple but as dedicated fans, we find it hard to accept this premise and move on with our lives. 2019 was a year filled with new relationships and new separations in B-town and we are bringing to you a list of your favorite couples who parted ways and broke a million hearts:
1. Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessica
Hottie Arjun Rampal and his wife Mehr Jessica filed for a divorce in 2018. They shared a beautiful marriage for 20 years and have two daughters— Mahikaa and Myra. Sadly, they announced that while they shared a beautiful journey with memorable moments, they have decided to move on to different paths in their life. They said that they will continue to support each other throughout this new journey that they are going to embark upon. They were legally divorced in November 2019 ending their two-decade-long marriage and ever since their separation have shared a cordial relationship. Arjun Rampal is currently in a relationship with South African model and actress Gabriella Demtriades and the two of them have been blessed with their first child.
2. Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha
Another couple who surprised everyone with their out of the blue separation was Dia Mirza and her husband Sahil Sangha. The two of them dated for six years before they got married and their marriage lasted for five years. In August 2019, Dia Mirza took her fans by surprise when she tweeted about the separation from her husband. In the tweet, she said that it was a mutual decision and that they will remain friends with each other. She said that they will continue to be there for each other and share a great deal of respect and love for each other. She added that while their journeys may lead them to different paths, they will be grateful for the bond they’ve established together. In a statement to the media, she said that they thank their family and friends who’ve supported them during this time but they request the media to respect their privacy.
3. Neha Kakkar and Himansh Koli
While Arjun Rampal, Dia Mirza, and their respective spouses separated on a mutual and cordial note, not all relationships end in that manner. In December 2018, Neha Kakkar announced her break up with her boyfriend Himansh Koli on Instagram in a series of posts. It came as a shock to her fans because they had publicly announced their relationship and were expecting to tie the knot. In January 2019, Neha Kakkar broke down on the sets of Indian Idol while working her way through the breakup. However, she later went on record to clarify that they had broken up and she had moved on. She said that she is happy to have moved on from the bad relationship and is thankful for whatever happened because it made her realize the importance of her family members. She also added, “With this bad experience, I am not open to love again” and said that she is happy to be single. Ever since the breakup, Neha and Himansh have not been on talking terms.
4. Shweta Tiwari and Abhinav Kohli
The case of actress Shweta Tiwari is quite unfortunate. She married her husband Abhinav in 2013 but in August 2019 filed a police complaint against him for domestic violence and they have been living separately ever since. When this news got out, Shweta was judged and trolled on social media forums because this was her second marriage that had failed. Her daughter Palak came out to the public on social media and defended her mother to shut down the trolls. In a press conference, Shweta Tiwari fearlessly spoke out and shut down the media and press who were asking disturbing and nosy questions. We are proud of her for taking a stand and staying strong through all the public disdain.
5. Ridhi Dogra and Raqesh Bapat
Ridhi Dogra and Raqesh Bapat ended their seven-year-long marriage in February 2019. They were one of those television couples that many people looked up to. When they ended things, they released a joint statement saying that they have mutually decided to separate but will remain best friends. They said that even though they are living separately, they will be there for each other through thick and thin. They said that this decision to separate was based on mutual respect and love for each other and their families. She urged the media not to speculate further on this and respect their privacy through it.
While divorce is not an easy decision, we are happy that the ones who are in bad marriages dare to get out of it irrespective of what people will say. Some others decide to mutually end their relationship and wish the best for each other and we are happy to see that they share an amicable relationship. What do you think about this list?
