Life as we know it is dramatic and rarely goes according to plan. Just when we think we’ve got a hang of it and it is going well, “life” teaches us that there is something else in store for us. When it comes to celebrity lives, most people have the notion that they are born with a silver spoon. The reality is that it is far from being true. Like everyone, our celebrities have also had to face struggles in life and come out stronger. Unlike what most people believe, their lives are not easy. They have worked hard to make it to where they are and it is their perseverance and dedication that has kept them going. From bullying and abuse to loss of loved ones, here are a few celebrities who have faced hardships in life but did not let that stop them from pursuing their passion.

1. Madhubala

The legendary actress Madhubala is called the Venus of Indian Cinema and is still considered one of the most beautiful actresses of her time. She had a difficult life and died young but she achieved so much in her short life and is an inspiration till date. Her house was wiped out due to the 1944 dock explosion and fire. She lost her siblings when they were just 5 and 6 years old and was first introduced to the big screen at the age of 9 because she needed to support her family financially. She also had a tragic love life. Actor Dilip Kumar and she were in a long term relationship but broke it off after several years of dating. She fell in love with the actor and singer, Kishore Kumar and married him. However, at the young age of 36, she died after a life full of scandalous love affairs and misfortunes. Because of the disasters she faced in life, she was given the name “The Beauty with Tragedy”.

2. Rekha

The veteran actress Rekha is known for her beauty and grace. She is the daughter of famous South Indian actor Gemini Ganesan and was forced to act in films at an early age. News got out that she was a lovechild and Rekha faced a lot of criticism and blame for it. She had a difficult childhood but pursued acting and became one of the most talented actresses in the industry. Rekha acted in many films opposite Bollywood’s Big B and allegedly had an affair with him. The news made the headlines many times but it was never confirmed by the two of them. However, she received a lot of flak from the public because Amitabh Bachchan was already married to Jaya Bachchan at that time. The three of them acted in Silsila together where Jaya played his wife and Rekha played his lover. The movie was quite scandalous at the time because there were rumors about Amitabh and Rekha’s affair making rounds back then. That was their last movie together. In 1990, Rekha married an industrialist Mukesh Aggarwal but in less than a year, she lost him to suicide. He was mentally ill and took his own life. Rekha has had a tough life but has stayed strong and established a name in the industry.

3. Kangana Ranaut

Known for her exceptional roles in Bollywood films, Kangana Ranaut worked hard to make it to where she is today. Hailing from a small town in Himachal Pradesh, she had to fight her parents to pursue acting. Her parents insisted that she studied to be a doctor but she moved out of her house and pursued modeling. At the ripe age of 16, she relocated to Delhi and took up modeling for a short time. Kangana made her Bollywood debut with the film Gangster for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Since then, she has acted in various unconventional movies like Fashion and is a superstar in the industry. Currently, she lives with her sister Rangoli who is an acid-attack victim. She was almost beaten to death by her sister’s ex-boyfriend when she stood up for her. The Queen actress has lived a tough life but hard work and dedication have given her the fame and fortune she has today.

4. Kalki Koechlin

With a French and Indian background, Kalki was raised in Ooty in a boarding school. Her parents got divorced when she was just 15 years old. In an interview, Kalki opened up about the horrifying experience she had as a child. She was a victim of abuse and assault as a child and that took a toll on her. She has made awareness videos on these issues and been a strong supporter of the cause. She was married to director Anurag Kashyap but they mutually decided to part ways. She recently had a baby girl with her boyfriend Guy Hershberg and the three of them look adorably cute.

5. Sridevi

The legendary actress and superstar, Sridevi was one of the highest-paid actresses of the 1980s and 1990s. The late actress was forced into acting at the age of 4. She acted in several movies and during the shoot of Lamhe, she lost her father. Soon after, she lost her mother to a careless doctor who operated on the wrong side of her brain to remove a tumor. Sridevi was allegedly married to Mithun Chakraborty before she married Boney Kapoor. She was found dead in Dubai in 2018 in her hotel room bathtub by her husband Boney. Her mysterious and sudden death was a shocker to fans everywhere. The cause of her death was determined as an accidental drowning but no one really knows what happened to her.
