Everybody wants a big fat Indian wedding. We hear stories of celebrities throwing grand weddings to celebrate their nuptials all the time which go on to serve as inspiration for our respective Pinterest boards. However, there are a few celebrities who successfully managed to cut down their carbon footprint while celebrating their union.
Instead of imbuing this momentous occasion with luxury and grandeur, they chose to celebrate in a low-key manner setting the much-needed examples in our excess-driven society. Here are ten celeb couples whose celebrations were simple events with only close family and friends in attendance:

Making his debut as a model in the 90s, he stole the hearts of millions of people across the country. After being a bachelor for many years, Milind finally tied the knot with his girlfriend, Ankita in 2018. The couple were married in a beautiful traditional Maharashtrian ceremony at Milind’s Alibaug farmhouse in the presence of their close family and friends.
9. Shahid Kapoor And Mira Rajput
Bollywood’s favorite chocolate boy, Shahid Kapoor, broke the hearts of his fangirls when he got married to Delhi-based Mira Rajput in a hush-hush wedding at a Gurudwara on the outskirts of Delhi. The ceremony was modest, with around 40 of their close friends and family followed by a star-studded wedding reception in Mumbai with the entire Bollywood fraternity in attendance.
8. Urmila Matondkar And Mohsin Akhtar Mir
Another 90s heartthrob known for her critically acclaimed roles in Ek Hasina Thi, Rangeela and Satya, Matondkar, tied the knot with a Kashmiri businessman named Mohsin Akhtar Mir. The two got married in a low-profile private ceremony at Urmila’s residence with close friends and family in attendance. Urmila looked stunning in a gorgeous red and golden lehenga designed by her close friend, Manish Malhotra, who also played the cupid in her love story. The couple met at Malhotra’s niece’s wedding in 2014, and for Mir, it was love at first sight.
7. John Abraham And Priya Runchal
Bollywood hottie John Abraham tied the knot in a hush-hush ceremony with his then-girlfriend Priya Runchal, an investment banker. The cat got out of the bag when he accidentally broke the news by wishing everyone on New Year and signed off the message as John and Priya Abraham.
6. Juhi Chawla And Jay Mehta
Jay Mehta was introduced to Juhi as a close friend of Rakesh Roshan, they became good friends and met up a few times over the following months. However, tragedy struck Jay when his first wife, Sujatha Birla, lost her life to a tragic airplane accident. During this time Juhi stayed by his side as a friend and eventually their friendship blossomed into romance.
They got engaged and planned for their wedding. However, tragedy struck once again when Juhi lost both her mother and brother, causing their marital plans to reach a steady halt.
In 1995, after almost five years of relationship, the couple secretly tied the knot in a private ceremony in front of close family and friends. The marriage only came to light when it was reported that Juhi was expecting the couple’s first child.
5. Himesh Reshammiya And Sonia Kapoor
The renowned vocalist got hitched to his long-time love interest Sonia Kapoor in a private function at home in the presence of their close ones. His son from his first marriage, Shyam, was also present at the wedding.
4. Aftab Shivdasani And Nin Dusanj
Aftab met British-Indian consultant Nin Dusanj through mutual friends and eventually started dating each other. They later got married in June 2014 in a private ceremony with close family and friends in attendance. They took their vows once again in a more upscale event in Sri Lanka in 2017.

On July 6th, 2015 actress Minissha Lamba had a secret wedding with her long-term partner, Ryan Tham. Their marriage was a court wedding and was only brought to the limelight after a congratulatory tweet from Pooja Bedi.
2. Konkona Sen Sharma & Ranveer Shorey
In September 2010, acclaimed actress and director, Konkona Sen Sharma married her longtime boyfriend, actor Ranveer Shorey in a super private ceremony that was limited to just close family. The couple had always shied away from the spotlight and only broke the news of their marriage two days later on Twitter. They welcomed their baby boy, Haroon in March 2011. Despite the marriage not working out, they share a sweet child, and Konkona dons the hat of single mom excellently, as she does with all her movie roles.

This friendship-turned-romance began after Aditya Chopra ended things with his ex-wife. Rani revealed startling secrets from their years of courtship including how Aditya showed up at her house to ask her parents for permission to take her out on their first date. The celebrated actor and the director dated for years before finally tying the knot in a small, intimate ceremony in 2014. In December 2015, the couple welcomed a baby girl, Adira into the world.
These celebs proved to the world that larger-than-life is not the only way to make declarations of love and commitment. Sometimes, small and intimate conveys the import of the relation in a much more dignified manner.
