Whether it is appearing at memorable night-outs or as a showstopper at many events, celebrities have always been the first to experiment with futuristic haute couture styles. Although to many, some of these designs might seem over-the-top, they did the job and got everyone talking. While you won’t find the exact outfits that the celebrities may be wearing, we guarantee that you can discover similar-looking outfits online. If you’re looking to vamp up your wardrobe, then try giving some of these futuristic outfits a shot. Here are nine celebrities that will inspire you to try more futuristic fashion trends during this fall:
1. Kim Kardashian
At the 2016 Met Gala, Kim Kardashian and her then-husband, Kanye West, showed up in striking silvery-robot-like ensembles. The outfit was designed by the famed creative director of Balmain, Olivier Rousteing. It perfectly fits the theme, “Manus X Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology”. Kim looked like she was wearing platinum armor and ready to fight a war in her dark makeup and slicked-back hair. Guests of the Balmain army later joined the pair, and scenes from their afterparty were actually featured in Kanye West’s music video of Wolves.
2. Grimes
Another MET Gala carpet look that we absolutely cannot get over is Grimes’s Iris Van Herpen outfit at the 2025 Met Gala, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. The striking outfit featured a gradient-dyed skirt that went from white to black and intertwining mirror waves. Her red carpet look was said to be “Dune-esqe” and she even borrowed the design of her facemask from the popular film. As for the sword she was carrying, it seemed to be only for decoration.
3. Kareena Kapoor
While celebrities abroad are embracing a more futuristic style of fashion, stars in India too are no less. Kareena Kapoor walked the ramp for designer Amit Aggarwal in a striking metallic creation. She launched the fashion designer’s latest collection at the time and looked impressive in a plunging gown and futuristic biomimicry. Her dress also featured Amit Aggarwal’s signature metallic detailing. Kareena kept her look simple and let her outfit do the talking for her.
4. Taylor Swift
Taylor channeled her dark side in a bold metallic creation by Louis Vuitton, which featured super dark lipstick and a bleach blonde bob cut. Although her look drew a lot of mixed opinions from fans, we have to say that we absolutely adore this look! This look will definitely go down as one of Taylor’s boldest and most beautiful looks.
5. Katy Perry
Katy Perry showcased her own futuristic sense of fashion when she wore a signature billowing pink gown from the Balmain Spring and Summer collection at the 2019 Grammy Awards. The outfit featured an intricate colorway and a structured bodice. It definitely was one of that night’s standout outfits.
6. Solange Knowles
Like Grimes, songstress Solange is a fan of Iris Van Herpen and wore one of their haute couture looks at the 2018 Met Gala. Solange got to work on the outfit with the designer as well and gave it a unique spin of her own. The sculptured gown is from the brand’s 2012 Fall and Winter collection.
7. Phoebe Dynevor
Phoebe Dynevor of Briderton fame wore a breathtakingly futuristic Louis Vuitton outfit. The dress was designed by a person named Nicolas Ghesquiere. It featured leather and a crystalized design in a halter neck cut and suited the actress perfectly!
8. FKA Twigs
FKA Twigs is known for having an exciting sense of fashion. The Holy Grail singer wore an iconic bustier-style dress that was created by Atelier Versace. We have to say that this look is one of her sleekest and hottest red carpet looks. Twigs decided to ditch her iconic braids and opt for a simple, short, and curly bob. All of her jewelry was designed by Eva Fehren.
9. Chloe Grace Moretz
Chloe Grace Moretz wore a striking floor-length silver gown designed by Coach 1941. The outfit was custom fitted and created for the actress, and she looked incredibly chic and cheerful. We love how futuristic her whole look is (not to mention relatively attainable!). Chloe was the guest of Stuart Vevers.
Whether you are a celebrity or a regular 9-5 office-goer, we guarantee that you can incorporate at least some of the elements of these outfits into your wardrobe. While not all of these looks might be affordable to the common person, some of them are pretty easy to find online replicas.
