Tired All The Time? 5 Common Reasons For Tiredness And How To Deal With Each

Written by Tanya Arora  •

The feeling of exhaustion is a natural part of life. Work pressure to spats with your lover – multiple things can get you tired. In fact, all three kinds of exhaustion – mental, physical, and emotional – may take place together in several situations! For example, a stressful week at work not only tires your back from sitting all day but the pressure causes your mind and spirit to be exhausted too.

Exhaustion usually goes away on its own once its cause is removed. For instance, if a lack of sleep has you tired, getting some shut-eye will restore your energy! However, if your exhaustion refuses to go away despite the apparent cause being dealt with, you might be suffering from chronic fatigue (1).

Chronic fatigue is a major problem of the modern lifestyle. It is estimated that around 17 million people all over the world suffer from this syndrome (2). Although cures for this problem exist, you can easily prevent it. And prevention is any day better than cure! However, to do that, you need to know about its causes and how to avoid them. That’s exactly what you’ll learn in the points below:

1. Lack Of Sleep

Lack of sleep is the number one cause of chronic fatigue (3). If you don’t get enough sleep time on a regular basis, you’ll feel constantly tired. Besides, sleep is essential. It relaxes your body, repairs damaged tissues, maintains hormonal balance and improves your overall wellbeing. So, if you don’t give your body the chance to do all of this, you’re bound to feel weaker. Your likelihood of becoming fat and getting diabetes or heart disease also increases.

To get the required 8 to 9 hours of sleep each day, you should first analyze what’s preventing you from falling asleep. Once you figure that out, you should take steps to induce sleep. For example, dimming the lights of your room, avoiding caffeine, and switching off your gadgets can all help.

2. A Sedentary Lifestyle

Your 9 to 5 job might be fattening up your wallet, but it’s certainly not doing your health any good. A sedentary lifestyle that involves sitting at a desk all day, for several hours a week, can cause chronic fatigue (4). Such a lifestyle can weaken your muscles over time and make you feel less and less energetic and can’t do anything at all. Inactivity can also lead to other problems such as obesity and related diseases.

The only way to prevent chronic fatigue in such cases is to become more physically active. Even if every muscle in your body screams against the prospect of exercising, you should force yourself to pick up the dumbbell and sweat it out. Half an hour of brisk walking every day can also do you good. Physical activity can actually increase energy levels than decrease it!

3. A Poor Diet

Food is supposed to give us energy, not take it away. However, if you eat the wrong kinds of food, that’s exactly what’s going to happen! Wolfing down a bar of chocolate or slurping a can of soda every time you need an energy boost might feel good, but the effect will only be temporary. The lack of nutrients in such foods will not be able to sustain you for long, thereby making you feel tired. Besides, the calorie content will fatten you up!
Strictly following a healthy and nutritious diet can fix this problem and reduce the exhaustion you feel. You should have a well-balanced diet that’s rich in all the nutrients and minerals your body needs. Fruits and veggies will do you good.

4. Stress

Ever felt extremely tired in a stressful situation? That’s because the two are closely related. When the stress is short-term, you will get high on adrenaline. But once it becomes long-term, your body will direct all its energy towards dealing with it, leading to severe exhaustion. Work-related stress is known to be a common culprit (5).

The first thing you need to do is deduce what’s stressing you out. Once you identify it, remove it. Also, practice yoga and meditation to keep yourself stress-free. Letting go of negative thoughts and feelings will help as well.

5. Other Health Issues

If you’re already a victim of a medical condition, you might fall prey to chronic fatigue as well. Any kind of persistent health problem such as anemia, diabetes, hypothyroidism, vitamin deficiencies, etc. can not only make you feel weak but also lead to a lot of stress (6). This can cause endless exhaustion.

Again, the cure here lies in treating the health problem that plagues you. Post-treatment, you should ensure you follow a healthy lifestyle so fatigue and other diseases don’t come knocking at your doorstep.

Chronic fatigue can severely disrupt your daily life as well as your social relations. Hence, you should immediately take action against it and save yourself from its consequences.
