Deepika Padukone, the reigning queen of Bollywood has proved again that she isn’t just a pretty face. The actress who has always been vocal about mental health issues has taken a big moon gravity step towards supporting people suffering from them. On October 10th which is observed as World Mental Health Day, she launched a new clothing collection after the sale of which the proceedings will go in support of the cause!

She surprised her fans by breaking the news yesterday afternoon on her Instagram account. The specialty of this collection is that all the clothes are right out of Deepika’s closet. You’d notice that she has worn many of them in movies and during promotions or public appearances. The collection includes Deepika’s favorite clothing items and they are all up for sale on her website deepikapadukone.com. Named as “The Deepika Padukone Closet,” the collection includes clothes, accessories, and bags from various brands ranging from Zara to Gucci.

Most of the items on The Deepika Padukone Closet were sold out within hours of the launch of the collection. Obviously, her crazy fans were just waiting for the big news before they could prance on the website. Owning and wearing an outfit or accessory design that their favorite actress has also worn is definitely something every girl dreams of. And the best part of it is that we know that we’re indirectly helping people who are in need of it. The proceedings will go to the Live Love Laugh Foundation which is an NGO founded by Deepika herself in order to spread awareness about mental health issues and support those who are suffering from them.

In the video, she also thanked her fans for their support by adding, “Thank you all for joining me on this journey to find new ways to raise awareness about mental health.”

A Journey That Began From Self

Deepika Padukone came out in the open and talked about her struggles with depression and anxiety when she was at the peak of her career. This risk was something even the biggest of the biggest celebrities would think twice before taking. In a country like India that still hasn’t accepted mental health problems the way they are supposed to be, it’s very hard even for a common man to admit that he suffers from a mental health issue. Obviously, with all the media attention and fame, it was very difficult for Deepika as well.

Years ago, in an interview with a leading news channel, Deepika had said, “I thought it was stress, so I tried to distract myself by focusing on work, and surrounding myself with people, which helped for a while. But the nagging feeling didn’t go away. My breath was shallow, I suffered from lack of concentration and I broke down often.”

She admitted that she consulted psychologists and was under medication for anxiety and depression. Deepika was shooting for Happy New Year during this time and we can imagine how much of a struggle it would have been to get up and go to work while you just want to do nothing and break down.

Once Deepika recovered from the mental health problems that she was suffering from, she decided to empower others who were living the hard life. For this, she founded the Live Love Laugh Foundation and has been actively helping the NGO out. The foundation helps people get quality psychiatric treatment and promote the recovery of Persons with Mental Illness (PwMIs). For this purpose, it has joined hands with The Association of People with Disability (APD). It has helped thousands of people so far and we hope that more and more organizations take up the responsibility of helping people suffering from mental health issues.
