Deepika will be releasing the clothing line through her Instagram page and a dedicated website. Her fans would be able to swipe up from the app and get directly guided to the items’ page. This is a similar tactic employed by celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. A portion of the money from the purchases goes towards Deepika’s foundation, Live, Love, Laugh. The actress set up this organization to help others who battled through mental health issues like her.

The “Sports Edit” collection is set to be launched on the 29th of August, which is National Sports Day. The collection will feature staple workout basics and leggings. It is meant to help her followers adopt a more fitness-based lifestyle as being fit helps the mind, body, and soul.

Earlier in March, Deepika had taken to her Twitter account to share an image of her father. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the win, Deepika wrote on her Twitter, “ Pappa, Your contribution to Badminton and Indian Sport is immeasurable! Thank You for your inspiring display of dedication, discipline, determination, and years of hard work! They don’t make you like you anymore…We love you and are proud of you! Thank You for being you!”

In February, Deepika had shared images of her father from the tournament to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in the city of Bangalore. Deepika’s husband, Ranveer too, took to his social media to commemorate his father in law on the 40th anniversary of his All England Open Badminton Championships win. He wrote, “40 years ago on this day, Prakash Padukone changed the fate of Badminton forever. He won the All England Championship in London’s Wembley Arena, creating history for Indian sports. An unprecedented, landmark victory that shines everlastingly in the annals of time.”

A Father’s Advice

Deepika had always wanted to be an athlete, just like her father. She had to give up her badminton career midway through as she faced the lack of proper infrastructure. This doesn’t mean the inner athlete has left the actress’s spirit. She had once opened up about the advice her father had given her when she was pursuing her sports career. She spoke about how her father asked her to always remember the three Ds: Determination, Discipline, and Dedication.

He had always advised her to follow her heart and to pursue her dreams. Deepika admitted that pursuing sports has taught her how to handle failures as well as successes. It kept her grounded and gave her a lesson in humility. She added that it was the athlete in her that got her through her rough battle with depression. She said that it was the athlete in her that gave her the strength to fight back and overcome her mental health issues.

On Her Badminton Career

Deepika admitted that she was sort of swept into playing Badminton. She stated that she didn’t even know how good she was until she started playing professionally. She added that only people who have participated in sports truly understand the amount of dedication it requires. Deepika believes that sports is what added value to her life, and the virtues and qualities she picked up helped her become the person she is today.

Deepika added that she believed she would be an entirely different person if it weren’t for sports. According to her, being an athlete teaches you to really work your way through the grind to get to the top. She encouraged women to partake in sports by stating that she believes women are unstoppable forces. She added that to her, being unstoppable means having no fear and to be able to listen to yourself and follow what your heart tells you. She added that if there is anybody trying to stop you, it is yourself.

Deepika has also been a frequent collaborator with the brand Nike and has been featured in multiple women-empowering campaigns by them. The purpose of the campaign was to show young women out there that they could dream of making a career for themselves in various sports streams. The video also featured Mary Kom, Ishita Malaviya, and many more powerful women.

Deepika has stood alongside some of the greatest badminton players. Although she may not have chosen to pursue a career in sports herself, she strongly supports her father’s dreams. They want to set about improving sports infrastructure across the country. Have you ever dreamed of a career in sports? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below.
