Blackheads and whiteheads can be quite annoying to deal with. If you’re someone who has oily skin or an oily t-zone, you know exactly how difficult it is to maintain clear skin. To make things worse, the removal process of these “heads” is quite difficult and often painful and cumbersome. There are tonnes of small and simple changes that one can make to their daily lives to prevent black and whiteheads from popping up. But before getting into them, it’s important to know that there’s a pretty big difference between blackheads and whiteheads. Blackheads are essentially whiteheads, formed inside your skin’s pores that eventually end up becoming bigger and black.
Here are a couple of simple measures you can adopt to get rid of any blackheads and whiteheads:
1. Wash Your Face Multiple Times A Day
Wash your face at least twice a day. In fact, washing your face every time you come home from outside is a good idea these days. However, you must ensure that you use a gentle cleanser and not something that might cause your skin to get dry or worse than it is. Even when you don’t step out of the house, a large number of pollutants can settle on your face. If you’re someone who has oily skin, it’s a good idea to invest in a clarifying face wash.
2. Bathe In Lukewarm Water
If you’re someone who can’t live without hot showers, then you need to stop. Water that is piping hot ends up leaving your pores open for a lot longer than necessary. This will end up allowing dust to accumulate in your pores and cause issues. Lukewarm water is great for people to open their pores enough to clean them but not enough to get super dirty (yes, it backfires!).
3. Use A Mild Scrub
If your skin is already pretty sensitive then harsh scrubs can really cause a lot of irritation to your skin. While it is important to make sure you exfoliate on a regular basis, using harsh scrubs can cause damage to the sensitive skin on your face. If you’re someone who has oily skin, you should make use of a hydrating, mild scrub.
4. Exfoliate Your Skin Regularly
It is important to try and exfoliate at least twice a week. If you have tougher or oilier skin, you can do it thrice a week. However, while at it, you should keep in mind that the facial skin is very sensitive and thus you should not go crazy with the scrubbing. It’s a good idea to get a gentle and soothing exfoliating face wash or scrub if you’re someone with super sensitive skin.
5. Wash Your Hair At Regular Intervals
The oil in your hair could be clogging up the pores on your face if you leave your hair loose against your face, all greasy and oily. To avoid this, the best way is to wash your hair often and make sure you avoid using chemicals that might cause harm to your hair. It’s always a good option to go for natural and paraben-free shampoos over chemical ones.
6. Use Oil-Free Makeup
Avoid purchasing products that have a lot of oil content in them. This will ensure that your skin doesn’t get oilier. Avoid using products that are super heavy or contain a lot of chemicals as they too can be very harsh on your delicate skin. If you have an oily T-zone, there are higher chances of whiteheads forming in your forehead and nose region. Hence, opting for products that are oily isn’t a good option. You must also ensure that you wash your brushes when they get dirty.
7. Wash Your Pillowcase
Yes, this is long overdue. One of the biggest causes of skin problems can be our own pillowcases that collect dust as we use them. You should replace your pillowcase every few days and opt for ones that are made of silk and such other materials. It’s also important to wash your pillowcases with a mild detergent than with ones that are loaded with harsh chemicals.
8. Buy Specific Products
If you wear sunscreen, it will help protect your skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. You should add products like salicylic acid that will cleanse your skin, tea tree oil to tone your skin, and use aloe vera gel to moisturize your skin! It’s always a good idea to check which ingredients might work well on your skin.
If you incorporate these changes into your routine, you will be able to effectively improve the texture of your skin and move towards having improved skin. It’s also important to understand the different types of products that are available and purchase the ones that are best suited for your skin. Everyone can achieve the skin that they desire if they are willing to put in the right amount of effort (and money). Do let us know if any of these tips were of help to you.
