As we walk further and further into adulthood, most of us find ourselves grappling with challenges that we wish we had been better prepared for. Many of these challenges could have been eased if our parents had imparted certain crucial life skills to us. From managing finances to maintaining healthy relationships, there are numerous everyday life lessons that we wish had been taught to us from an early age. Reflecting on our experiences, here are some things we wish we knew before, and how they could have better shaped our paths to adulthood. Read on!

1. Financial Literacy

The importance of financial literacy cannot be overstated, yet it’s a topic that is often neglected in traditional education and upbringing. We wish our parents had provided us with a solid foundation in financial management, teaching us how to budget effectively, save for the future, and invest wisely. By instilling in us the value of financial responsibility and independence, our parents could have set us on a path towards long-term financial security and stability.

2. Healthy Communication

Effective communication is the cornerstone of healthy relationships. We wish our parents had taught us how to express ourselves assertively, listen actively, and communicate our needs and boundaries. By modeling healthy communication in their own interactions, our parents could have equipped us with the tools we need to cultivate meaningful connections with others.
