Just because we do things every day does not necessarily mean we are doing them right. Most of our regular habits are taught by our parents, and they have been taught by their parents, so most of them are not backed by scientific reasoning. Having been so used to them, we may not give these routine actions a second thought. As a result, common things such as using public restrooms or storing perishables in the refrigerator could be done wrong. Here in this article, we have discussed some simple things that aren’t done correctly by most of us due to improper habits. Read on to know them all.

1. Putting Paper Towels On Public Restroom Stall Seats


Many of us try to avoid public washrooms as much as possible, but staying away from home for long hours makes it impossible to not use them. So the safest option is to lay tissue paper on the toilet seat before sitting on it. However, germs on the toilet can still spread even after using toilet paper. Its ability to soak water makes it an ideal medium for the growth of microorganisms. In contrast, human skin is more effective in repelling germs than toilet paper. You should also check that the seat is dry and that there are no cuts or scrapes on your hips or thighs that can create an easy pathway for the germs to enter your body. To stay safe, you can keep a disinfectant spray and spray the seat and door knob before using the loo.

2. Adding More Detergent Than Necessary In The Washing Machine


Using excessive detergent in the washing machine might prevent stains from being removed. This occurs because the detergent’s suds act as a cushioning for the grime. On the other hand, using too little may also leave your clothes dirty. The instructions on the detergent container should be followed for the best results. Also, make sure you switch to liquid detergent to have your clothes washed effectively.

3. Flushing Without Covering The Toilet Seat


This might not have occurred to you as you keep your washroom spotless, but to prevent germs from spreading all over your bathroom, ensure the lid is down before you flush. Doing so can keep water droplets from the toilet from spilling out over the floor or walls.

4. Not Cleaning Your Scrubbing Sponges


In the kitchen, if you don’t frequently clean your sponges, you’re inviting bacteria to spread all over your dishes and cutlery. Put them in a boiling water pot for 5 minutes to disinfect them. Soaking the sponges in water and then microwaving it for a minute is another option.

5. Not Cleaning Your Fridge


If you don’t clean your fridge thoroughly before putting food in it, it might become a bacterial breeding ground. Be cautious about washing or replacing food containers before storing them. Meats should be stored in a separate area from other foods to prevent the spread of microorganisms.

6. Constantly Touching Your Face


The spread of microorganisms within the body is essential to basic hygiene. Because of this, it is suggested that you keep your hands away from your face, especially your eyes and nose. Always use soap and water to wash your face before using the restroom.

7. Charging Your Mobile Overnight


Experts warn that excessive periods of charging might hasten the deterioration of a phone’s battery. Between 30 and 50 percent is acceptable for a phone’s battery life. You may use a portable charger to prevent your phone from dying at an inopportune time throughout the day.

8. Not Measuring Spaghetti Before Cooking


You may utilize the hole in the spaghetti ladle to accurately portion out the size of spaghetti. Simply put the dry spaghetti through the opening and fill it up to achieve the perfect serving size for one. This will ensure your meal is even sized and ideal for your little one to wrap on their fork.

9. Too Much Or Too Little Brushing


Too much of anything is never good; the same goes for brushing teeth. It has been shown in a recent study that cleaning your teeth for less than two minutes, or many times a day, can be harmful (1). It is recommended to clean your teeth twice daily for two to four minutes. Also, avoid using harsh bristled toothbrushes on your gums. Make sure you care for your teeth gently and change your toothbrush every 3 months to maintain proper oral hygiene.

10. Storage Of Dairy Products In The Refrigerator Door


The refrigerator door shelf may look like the perfect spot to keep milk, butter, and eggs, but that’s not the case. When you open and shut the refrigerator door, the temperature rises, and falls, making the shelves in the door warmer. Therefore, perishables like eggs should be kept on the bottom shelf, more toward the rear of the fridge, where it is colder.
