Are you reading this because you love dressing up? Do you feel that shopping is the only therapy that scientifically works? And, of course, you never have anything to wear?

C’mon, we know that your closet is overflowing with stuff that has never seen the light of the day. Let’s give each other a hi-five, and do this exercise together to fling out some fashion trends that are going to bid adios along with 2016. As for me, I’m tossing out my mommy jeans, corset tops, and some more stuff (we will get to the list in a minute!) I hoarded my closet with,  as we speak.

Read on to find out what else is flying out like the UFOs:

1. Denims Are Eternal, Except They Are Not

Beige trousers are going to hit it out of the park this season, from what we see. If you’ve been following fashion news, the Spring 2017 collection is out, and it looks like the jeans trend is well on its way out. So, the beige the better.  For that matter, we will see a lot less of anything ‘denim’. Mommy jeans, denim jackets, dungarees. And oh, even the jeans leggings or jeggings as they call it – you got it, they’re out!

2. Corsets – Make Them Go

Like the fashion police say – “make them go’. The corsets had their lion’s share of attention; it’s only fair that they exit gracefully. Designers like Michael Foley agree. In his words – “Corsets had such a huge moment this year, but I’m not sure if I see designers continuing this into 2017 after the trend was covered in such a major way in the press”.

3. Unicorn Tales

Unicorns just catapulted back into our lives, this time taking many more forms. They had everything going their way from Twitter handles to bagels, sling bags, accessories, t-shirts, clutches – you name it. Everyone with FOMO had statements with a unicorn, and I hope all of you thoroughly enjoyed this because it was just a fad. They left good imprints then, they did so now, let us leave it at that.

4. Pencil Heels And Painful Soles

Heels over six inches and above have been ruling the fashion world not just in 2016 but over a decade now. I’m not sure if you got the memo, but they are slowly replacing the platforms, wedges with sneakers (colored, jazzy, and embellished). From runways to red carpets and fashionistas – all of them are in unison, and it’s pretty evident. I’m grateful!

5. Low-Waist Jeans Are Low Standard

It seemed like a pretty cool idea then and for a very long time, but It’s about time that these are out. In fact, as per the experts, it was a withering style; we just did not realize it. With the myriad other choices you’ve got for trousers, it shouldn’t be hard to let it go and you’ll easily cope up with the loss.

6. Hideous Tiered Skirts

This unflattering tiered skirt style had its one minute of fame, but it was never appealing.  We have seen so many variants, all of which were unattractive, and there was something about this style that was not right. In any case, this was that one of those styles that stayed longer than was meant to be.  Au Revoir – actually no, I don’t think we want to see this again.

7. Infinity Scarves – Not So Infinite

They came, they conquered, and they are now leaving. The pre-made scarves were a savior for many, many seasons. But we had to know – they came with an expiry date. We might not even miss them as much, with the kind of chic scarves that are out there now. It will only get better, so ditch them for the new ones.

8. Old School Formal Pants

The world seems to be rapidly changing, and so is the fashion world. Business formals are at their beautiful best right now, so the old school/interview pants are the last thing that you should consider purchasing. It’s a wrap for now and forever!

9. Sweat Pants Are For Slumber Parties

Fitness is the new mantra and getting fit will most definitely be one of your New Year resolutions. While we are at it, let’s talk about something that will not be around in 2017. Your workout apparel is only getting better by the day, and so is loungewear. Athleisure has taken people by storm – it’s stylish, chic, and comfortable. Long story short, the old sweat pants are by no means considered either hot or cool. Sporting your workout clothes all day long is totally acceptable as long as you treat them well.

10. Slip On Dresses And T-Shirts

The satin slip dresses and T-shirt combination, as we all know, was an instant hit. I loved it for more reasons than I want to admit, it just felt like an easy way of layering without being obvious. Looking back, I could have taken a pass, and ask-the-expert – the feeling is mutual. Don them as separates, and they are great pieces of clothing, together they are so the opposite.

11. Socks And Sliders

No hard feelings, but I’m secretly happy that this style has had its last dance. Ankle length socks – good, sliders – great, but together, a big no-no.

The fashion world is pretty agile and like they rhetorically say it changes at the drop of a hat. While we might not be able to keep up with everything, there are a few things that we just cannot afford to not follow.
