According to a study featured in the journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, there’s a concrete difference between the way men and women’s brains are wired (3). By analyzing the maps of the brains of both men and women, researchers found out that there’s a strong connection between the left and right hemispheres in women’s brains. Meanwhile, in men, this connection is the strongest between the back and front portions of their brains. This is why men are better at coordination and perception, while women excel in memory power and social skills.

University of Alabama’s Biology Department Chair, Steven Austad says that in every stage of life, women display better survival skills than men. He says that women are more robust. Although science is yet to know the reason why behind this, many conjecture that this can be attributed to the fact that men fall prey to cardiovascular issues and associated conditions sooner than women do. This can lead to an early grave, according to Georgetown University faculty member, Kathryn Sandberg.

Research conducted by Israel Abramov, Professor of Psychology at the Brooklyn College, conclusively proved that men and women perceive colors differently (4). According to the study, men require a longer wavelength to view the same shade as women do. Since lengthier wavelengths are linked to warmer tones, the color orange may seem redder to a man as compared to a woman, for example, and so on!

The love hormone, also known as oxytocin, doesn’t play the same role in women as it does in men. In fact, instead of just giving rise to a feel-good feeling, oxytocin also plays a crucial role in both bonding with the infant as well as nursing when women become mothers. Moreover, oxytocin is responsible for uterine contractions as well when a woman is in labor, and helps in the shrinkage of a woman’s uterus post-childbirth (5).

A researcher, Stuart Ritchie, from the University of Edinburgh, conducted a study along with his teammates to find out if both men and woman have visible differences in the makeup of their brains (6). As per his research, women’s cortices are larger, while men’s brain volumes are much higher. The cortices are the layer that covers the cerebrum and are responsible for consciousness. So, taking the findings into account, it means that women tend to perform better at IQ tests as compared to men!

This might not come as a surprise to many but it’s worth mentioning regardless! Your body’s alcohol tolerance depends on the production of an enzyme in your stomach known as alcohol dehydrogenase. This enzyme helps in the breakdown of alcohol in your body before it is transferred to your bloodstream. The lesser the enzyme in your body, the more alcohol in your bloodstream and the higher you’ll feel. A group of researchers found out that women’s bodies naturally lack this enzyme as compared to men, which makes them feel drunk faster (7)!

Dr. Joseph Holtman and Dr. Meda Raghavendra conducted a joint study and found out that women are more likely to get neck pain as compared to men (8). This is because a woman’s cervical disc degenerates more quickly as compared to a man’s. In fact, the degeneration of this disc is a primary cause of neck ache and it induces symptoms such as stiffness, numbness, a burning sensation, etc. The study also mentioned that neck pain might happen more frequently while moving the head or standing.
