Every Indian house has certain items that are common to every household. Whether you come from the north, west, east or even south of this country, we guarantee you will at least be able to recognize a few of the items on this list. No matter where you come from, there are certain household items that remain common in every part of the country. Whether that is a Quality Streets box filled with sewing equipment or twenty packets of Maggi, you will find these certain items in your home for sure. Here is a list of fifteen items you will find in almost every Indian household that you visit or your own:

1. A Masala Box

Whether you live with your parents or by yourself, you know the true value of a masala dabba. Indians love and are obsessed with their spices and will go out of their way to take proper care of the spices that they have in their homes. If you’re a foodie, then your kitchen is incomplete without a spice rack.

2. Steel Glasses

Thalis are used to serve multiple small dishes and are almost like a tray in some manner. They have mini bowls and are often used during special occasions or at certain types of restaurants. Thalis are a great way to try multiple food items in small portions so you don’t overload yourself.

4. A Divan

Although these special types of beds are Turkish by origin, they are extremely popular in Indian households and are found everywhere. What’s great about them is that they make for aesthetic seating as well as an extra bed for when your guests come over. They’re also fun to play cards on, and you can take them out to your terrace and gaze at the stars.

5. Zandu Balm

Dabbas are super common and are really popular in Indian families. If your parents pack their lunch boxes before they go to work, then they most likely pack their food in dabbas and take them. Just as Tupperware is a common fixture in Indian households, so are dabbas, which can be found everywhere.

7. Wooden Roti Maker

If you cook your own food, you have no excuse to not own a roti maker. No Indian household is complete without a roti maker and a “belan”. After all, how are you going to impress anybody if you cannot make round rotis, right (note the sarcasm).

8. Terrible Plastic Chairs

We don’t know why these chairs even exist but they are extremely popular in Indian households. They’re often used to seat children and random guests who will show up unannounced to your party. These plastic chairs are also a common fixture at children’s parties and are the preferred choice when it comes to playing musical chairs.

9. Metal Almirah

Metal almirah’s are also really popular and are an oldie but a goldie. Even if you have never seen one in your own home, we guarantee that your grandparents used to use them at some point. The only downside to using this type of almirah is that it’s extremely creaky and noisy.

10. A Tube Of Boroline

12. Jhaadu

Jhaadu’s are another staple Indian household item and are a really popular and effective way of getting rid of the dirt and dust that collects around your home. While people abroad use vacuums and other kinds of items to clean up their homes, jhaadu’s are a preferred choice in our country. Some of us would also remember it as something that was thrown at us (*LOL*)!

13. Chappals
