Written by Niharika Nayak, BA (Media & Communication)  •

It’s only been a few days since the world was left in shock after a young 26-year-old veterinarian was abducted, gang-raped, tortured and burned in the state of Telangana. Many people, including Sandeep Vanga, director of Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy, felt the need to chime in and express their horror regarding the incident. With big Bollywood celebrities like Salman Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Huma Quresh and Risha Chadha being horrified by the occurrences. However, not everyone has nice things to say. Alleged filmmaker Daniel Shravan took to Facebook to provide unsolicited advice to all the Indian women out there. Read on to find out why his comments left everyone in a puddle of fury:

While most people took to social media to offer their support for the victim’s family or to criticize the judicial system for not taking the situation seriously, not everyone got the point. Self-proclaimed filmmaker, Daniel Shravan felt the need to add his two cents into the matter and give the women of our country advice on how to ‘accept rape’ and stop “rape-related murders”. According to Daniel, women should not deny men intimate relations and give in to their rapists without putting up a fight. He believes the government should legalize “Rape Without Violence Scheme” (No killing after rape) and that girls above 18 should be educated on rapes.

Yes, you read that right! According to the IPC, rape is a criminal offense, and the sentence it carries is a minimum imprisonment of ten years. This is following a new criminal law amendment bill passed in the year 2018.

But Daniel didn’t just stop there. He went on to further explain his point by stating that women should basically carry condoms so their rapists will not feel the need to kill them. According to him, the government is frightening rapists with laws like the Nirbhaya Act and encouraging the use of pepper spray. Daniel continued his illogical tirade by stating that rapists are not finding a way to release their desires on women and women should accept the idea of a man forcing themselves onto her. Apparently, when the desires of these criminals have been fulfilled, they will stop killing women. He even had the audacity to compare the Nirbhaya Act to smuggling and terrorism and talked about how the acts put in place for those apparently did not affect curbing the problem. For obvious reasons, this post enraged netizens across the country, and many came forward to slam Daniel for his ridiculous and depraved comments (1).

Actress Kubbra Sait of Sacred Games fame shared his post with the caption “Whoever this Daniel Shravan is: Needs medical help, maybe some heavy-duty whacks up his b*tt, will help him clear his constipated mind. Infuriating little p***k.”

Many Twitter users took to the platform to share their outrage regarding Daniel’s words. One Twitter user wrote “More pearls of wisdom from the same man. If women accept his proposal there won’t be rape. Because women are adamant b*****s rape happens. What happens when parents don’t raise their sons properly.”

Another user tweeted “Dear Women,
As men we don’t have answers to this rape culture problem. If left to our devices we will come up with beauties like lynchings and castration and even worse ideas like this. Men like this Daniel Shravan don’t speak for the rest of us. Sincerely, Men.”

Many took to the platform to mock the Daniel Shravan for his stupidity and even made remarks on how he must be mentally unstable to pass comments of this nature. One user said “Kindly ignore these brainless babbles. These can cause brain cancer. I think I might have to go for a check-up.”

Daniel’s Reaction To The Outrage

In the original post when one of his Facebook followers remarked on Daniel’s detestable post, by asking him to counsel a therapist for his ‘dangerous’ state of mind, Daniel brazenly stated that “If these resolute b*****s didn’t consent to the proposition made by the attackers, they will have no other option than to rape them”. Daniel likewise reacted positively when the Facebook follower inquired as to whether he will provide similar guidance to the ladies of his family.

Later he took down every one of his posts from Facebook, and posted another message apologizing for his remarks. He claimed that he is composing dialogues for a villainous character in a film he will direct in the future and that it was taken out of context and heavily misjudged by his Facebook audience. He said that the announcements are not his own personal opinions, and apologized for hurting anyone’s sentiments with his “character’s” views.

We think Daniel should keep his opinions to himself and not bother spreading his opinions and spilling filth all over the internet.
